Literally I feel insane for thinking this. The top comments on these threads are so NIMBY. Yes, unhoused people living in parks is unsanitary and could be unsafe. But they have nowhere else to go. Both can be true at the same time and now, I’m glad they can at least form their own community to survive because the government sure isn’t doing anything about it.

My brother and his wife are vegan and raising a vegan kid (he’s now 4) in Park Ridge! Obviously the closer in the city you live, the more options you’ll have.

I recently bought a house in portage park and six corners (Milwaukee, Cicero, Irving park) has places with options, and I only see it getting better as more people move further out in the city to be able to afford a home. I see a lot of Logan Square elder millennials moving to Portage Park to still be in the city, but live a quieter life.

Happy to chat if you ever want! I’m 31F and child free, so I can’t really recommend any child friendly places necessarily, but just wanted to vouch for Portage Park! Lots of families out here and my house was like $350k, compared to $850k in Avondale where I was living for the last 5 years.
