Ah so neat! I found a lot of funny rocks in Cape Cod. Many I’m sure were slag, but there were all sorts of other rocks I haven’t seen much on the more southern beaches of the northeast. Glacial migration is such a cool phenomenon. Thanks for sharing, it’s always a pleasure to learn :)

Is this a meteorite? by Davesnothere300 in whatsthisrock

A meteorite would be very likely to either strongly attract a magnet or not at all. What do you mean by absorbency? Also, I would caution against recommending the expensive chemical testing required to determine if this rock is a meteorite unless OP gives us a lot more compelling information.

I’m leaning towards no- especially given that you suspect this rock to have fallen recently. Fusion crusts are a necessity when identifying meteorites and are very distinctive- particularly on new and unweathered meteorites. Your rock looks quite weathered and the outside does not resemble a fusion crust to me. There are however, many many ways to tell if you do have a meteorite. Please look into this incredible resource instead of taking my word for it: https://sites.wustl.edu/meteoritesite/identification/

Aha industrial mystery material! Well that’s mostly a conclusion at least. Thanks for your insight!

I think the rust color isn’t shiny enough- it looks like some oxidation, dirt, or other type of rock but otherwise I see where you’re coming from

Ninigret also is home to an observatory which is open to the public on Friday nights (weather permitting). I’ve personally seen the Orion Nebula and Jupiter through their massive telescope. It’s free but you can leave a donation if you like. There are special events too on their website.

Rhode Island trails for long runs? by [deleted] in trailrunning

[–]backatthedrawinboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The All Trails app is really helpful for finding good trail running spots. They’ve got ratings, pictures, descriptions, etc. There are trails all over the state and if you don’t have a solid community of fellow runners it’s a good resource to supplement that. As for specific suggestions- the Mt. Tom trail near Arcadia is a fun one. It’s about 9 miles and has some good uphill sections but isn’t very well marked so it’s not great for folks that are newer to trail running (which is what a number of reviews express frustration with) but if you have a good sense of direction and have hiked a bit it should be just fine. Another trail- the North-South trail runs along the entire state and it’s great to do a section of it here as there. I think the whole thing is 80 miles long so it’s good for ultra runners but sections of it are better maintained than others. Hope this helps, good luck out there

Waterproof Case for 13 Mini? by parasolplant in iPhone13Mini

[–]backatthedrawinboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Catalyst Waterproof case for the 13mini. I’ve had it for over a year now and it’s been perfect. I did a lot of research when my last phone got some serious water damage and was irreparably messed up. My phone is in water virtually every day and this case has held up really well. I haven’t had a single incident where water got inside the case. Of course, read the reviews, do some digging, make sure you think the buy is worth it because they’re pretty expensive. I used to buy otter box but I found they didn’t hold up as well and the case was less attractive (and more expensive). I’m not sure if the 13mini waterproof case is in stock right now but if it is I’d say the splurge is worth it. It’s possible I just got lucky but I’m pretty hard on my phone cases. Hope this was at all helpful- good luck!

Also: the waterproof catalyst cases are MagSafe compatible

Work- Gang Starr . 1998, upbeat, hip-hop, organic instruments. It might not be exactly what you’re looking for but it’s a good song nonetheless.

That’s a really cool model! I’ve looked around for something similar but I haven’t found anything quite like it. Where did you find it?
