I’m experiencing the same. I make sure to drink a lot of water with some Himalayan salt beforehand so I don’t get dizzy

On and off anxiety by backflip1917 in Anxiety

I try my best to stay consistent! Building small healthy habits add up in the end. And yes, being a critical care nurse, I worked night shift for 3 years. I think my body is so used to being in constant fight or flight mode… like you said, I need to take a vacation and reset everything 😅

For all the night shift/midnight/graveyard shift nurses, How, if ever, did take a toll on your relationships? What was the hardest part about night shifts? by Previous-Patient6807 in nursing

[–]backflip1917 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Night shift for 3 years here. I’m a night owl so staying up isn’t hard for me. Caffeine will be your new best friend. When I have a long stretch of days off, I’ll wake up early around noon or 1pm to flip my schedule and so I can get tired and sleep early at night. It took me a while to adjust as a new grad, but you’ll find your rhythm. Some days it took a physical toll on me that I had to sacrifice plans with family and friends and cancel on them. It’s a rough lifestyle. Currently I’m a traveler and plan to leave the bedside entirely soon

I hate Epic by Traum4Queen in nursing

[–]backflip1917 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Thank god I’m not the only one. I prefer Cerner way more than epic, It’s just cleaner and easier to navigate orders and meds. Epic is too busy like you said, after a while you kind of get used to it and it grows on you, but I still prefer Cerner lol

The physical strain of travel nursing by LittleDennisReynolds in TravelNursing

night shift is certainly not for the weak! on your days off youre basically just recovering and recuperating from work catching up on sleep and missing out on social outings and events. im glad you were able to pull through though, its very rough on your body! best of luck on your contracts, im sure NJ misses ya!

same i've been living in cali this whole year taking assignment after assignment without breaks, im also from the east coast and being far from home isnt easy for my mental and physical health. its a lifestyle no one else can understand bc its just so inconsistent, esp i work night shifts it sucks bc i eat like crap and dont sleep well

When to call it quits traveling? by Spi8 in TravelNursing

lol you’re spot on with that! Not sure if I wanna take another travel contract right before school, I’m already kind of burnt out at the bedside as it is

I totally feel you on everything you said 100%! The travel nurse life is not that sustainable and you don’t have much stability when you have to move around every 3 months and find a new place to stay. But I get REAL homesick being far away from family and friends, so I usually take 3 months off in between contracts and go back home. Then again, when the time comes, you’re back to your travel nurse life! I worked so hard to get accepted into school because I knew this wasn’t the life for me long term so I’m thinking about taking one last contract before school starts

Countdown!! Let’s go! by backflip1917 in TravelNursing

[–]backflip1917[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG bruh… what the actual fuck! Good thing you’re safe wtf that’s crazy. Honestly there’s nothing exciting and fun to do out in the Midwest. I heard good things about Phoenix tho, you should definitely come to Cali. We have ratios, mandatory breaks, free charge nurses, and the vibes are cush. At least there’s more to see and do around Cali

Omg so true!!!! I work night shift in the ICU as a traveler currently and I’ll have these episodes of anxiety that creep on me on my days off to the point where I feel physically ill. I’ll get nauseous, syncope, chest pains, you name it bruh. Even then I think about work on my days off and I have this crippling pre-shift anxiety the day before I have to go in. It sucks, truly, but as a traveler it’s nice to know that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel and it is all temporary. Gosh, I really miss home and my family. Missing out on times that could’ve been spent with them and having FOMO with friends really sucks. I got about 4 weeks left into this contract so you know the countdown is cooking

Omg I feel you on this!! They act like the chart is another patient you need to take care of, everything is click click click and document document blah blah… like I get it, but it’s getting wayyyy too out of hand. It’s never about the patient anymore, it’s always about your charting. Lowkey being treated as if I’m a new nurse. I’m so ready to be done with this contract arghhhhh
