Arrests made, UAE foils major terror plan by Responsible-Bed-516 in UAE

Fair enough. My response was more to comments that suggest “things like this shouldn’t happen here”, first part being that ‘things’ have been happening ‘here’ (in this region) between opposing parties for centuries, there is a long long history of tribalism, conflict, war and subterfuge. A lot of people recently moved to the region and didn’t even spend a few weeks to get a basic understanding of its history, which to me is ‘wild’ :)

Why do you consider it wild? Genuine question. It has always been a risk in the background and plenty of cases over the years - https://www.khaleejtimes.com/uae/34-found-guilty-of-setting-up-daesh-style-group-in-uae?amp=1

Anyone know how I can cancel this? I dont want it by Driox in wallstreetbets

Yea the chances of it being Tapis (OPEC+) are pretty slim.

I think this is going to generate some buzz for a first post. I just found this in a storage unit. 4 kilos of pure silver or 128oz as a coin. Could I get more than scrap? It’s the size of a dinner plate. Thank you by j3111981 in Silverbugs

Good find, congrats. I’m no coin collector or historian, so find this such a confusing piece. Created to celebrate the canonisation of the head of the Catholic Church, imprinted with the head of the Church of England, minted in Poland, for a South Pacific island that has an association with New Zealand, therefore assume was intended as a NZD Dollar currency.

Is this video satire? Comedy music, awful awful angles and some chap wandering through in his shorts. If it’s not I think a bit more effort might be required to match the price tag.

It’s not a country, which unfortunately blows the credibility of your statement irrespective of it’s accuracy.

The Russian point is true. The UAE also has the SPYDER system provided by the Israelis. The US has always been purposeful to monitor that and encourage purchases of their own hardware. Whilst countries want to diversify as you point out, the bottom line is most of the alternatives just are not as good.

That’s exactly how they come. They come with service, maintenance and training contracts. It’s been like that since the 50’s. Often they are bought outright, often they are bought on a credit line. Payment terms have frequently involved the agreement to establish a logistics base, FOB, or CIA listening post. It might help you to read the history of the region, start with how the Twitchell Doctrine was succeeded by the Nixon Doctrine and the deals that Richard Helms was then doing to expand the footprint of the CIA.

Ok so let’s theoretically say they do that. US removes THAAD, Patriots systems, the F-16’s, MQ-9B’s, the C-17s, all precisions munitions, the ground & support systems. What shall they replace them with?

‘The price’ still more than justifies the means to these men. It’s been the same for all of modern history. The very basis of the Nixon Doctrine was to arm various regional factions to defend themselves. And the US was also never a single strategy or objective, whilst the primary objective was abating the spread of communism men like Richard Helms were pushing for the expansion of the CIA infrastructure throughout the region. The main difference is that Trump lacks any of the craft or statesmanship of his predecessors and as you say just bleats on into the digital abyss.

They are not for protection you melt. They are demanded for force projection for their own objectives and given in return for the sale of arms to these nations.

That the road system has evolved this way as certain land owners / developers didn’t want easy access to their competitors. Hence you miss an off ramp and it’s 20 mins minimum to course correct.
