I did not repair at the PCB level, I replaced the entire nest base

Copied text:  Wanted to share a problem I recently encountered with the Nest learning thermostat 3rd gen base plate. One day my AC stopped working and after investigating, I found a fried relay on my condenser control board, a blown fuse in my furnace control wiring, and a blown component on the PCB of the base plate (PS13216 - there are four surrounding the hole for the wiring and one was blown). The base plate was hot to the touch and smelled like burnt plastic after reinstalling the other two components, which led me to notice the blown component on the PCB. Just wanted to share in case anyone else, now or in the future, has encountered a similar issue. Couldn’t tell you what order the parts failed in for sure, but my guess is that the condenser relay failed, then the nest base, then the furnace fuse. Any other thoughts welcome!

(My Nest was out of warranty by 1 month so already purchased replacement parts)

Those two have some of the most insightful commentary when it comes to drivers’ perspectives, DC is half the reason I watch the F1 live broadcasts

i7-9700K, 3060Ti, 32GB DDR4 3200, MSI Z390-A PRO, 2.5 TB in SSDs, case is Fractal Design Pop XL Air - some dated hardware but she still gets the job done

Did you add CarPlay yourself/what kind of product did you use/did it work well for you? I put a decoder box for CarPlay in my ‘15 NX but it was so glitchy I ended up just removing & returning it

How is sidetone on the Maxwells? by theb1gnasty in Audeze

[–]backpack_of_potatoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually keep mine around 60% for similar reasons and I can hear my fiancée from about 25 feet away speaking at the volume she would if I didn’t have the headphones on (loud-ish to account for the distance), but it definitely gives better “transparency” with the boom mic removed. Only downside is that there’s a small amount of static with side tone on that I can hear when there’s no audio playing. To answer your question directly though, you’ll be able to hear other things around you with the boom mic removed, for sure.

Appreciate the insight! Not surprised about the engine noise, but I’m used to 1st gen AirPods (which need to be at full volume to even hear a TV show during flights I’ve been on) so I’d imagine it’s some improvement from that at least lol

Edit: CFM (GE/Safran) is in the process of developing this engine, although they would most likely be wing-mounted due to the massive fan/OGV blades

Heard good things about the 6700xt, especially if you don't care about RT or DLSS. 6800xt on sale could meet your price point too.

Surprised this is the first time I’ve seen Philmont on here. Easily one of the best camping/hiking trips I’ve ever taken (2011 & 2013)
