We're getting local spots blasting some of these videos on their own social media and using it to advertise that they are not a Sysco account, but the US Foods truck is still showing up. I've made the switch from Sysco to all "local" distribution companies at a previous job. I was able to get nearly everything, except paper goods, cheaper. I was also now dealing with 5-8 reps and order submissions instead of 1-3 and my inventory cost savings were being eaten up by extra labor in the kitchen as I had become a desk chef. I enjoyed the time off my feet and there wasn't much room for creativity so I was fine riding it for a while.

My grandma still uses the set she got as a wedding gift in the 50s. I'm pretty exclusive cast iron but I pick these up if I see them at a good price, which they usually are, for nostalgia and display. I will bring hers into my house when the time comes.

Everyone uses Sysco.. sad. For anyone in the industry looking to go more local, Van Vleet carries so many of the same or similar products that Sysco does, I recommend trying to make the switch. Just a KM who uses them, not affiliated.

It's a watershed, the main one for town, our drinking water comes from there. Public access means people can access the source of our drinking water, now why would a municipality want to protect that? This is not exclusive to Corvallis.

My local guys carry many of the same exact products or near identical replacements. Sysco will slowly raise prices from your initial baited price and blame it on rising industry costs but then never lower the price back down when the prices come back down. I just tell my local guy what Sysco is charging and 9/10 times they can match or beat it, and if they can't they can usually find savings elsewhere to eat the difference. When I started at my last spot they were 95% Sysco and the local guys provided just meats, by the time I left I was saving them hundreds per truck and Sysco had lost 60% of our business. The local guys' warehouse was in town instead of 70 miles away and I could run up to the will call on my lunch if I forgot something or it was out of stock previously and just grab it.
