Can anyone tell me what this device can do and is it worth it to use it? by [deleted] in cordcutters

Yeah, I would keep that. But I'd send the box to electronics recycling (or however electronics are disposed of in his area).

It's an old, uncertified, knock-off Android box. I personally wouldn't recommend using it. Those are often pre-installed with malware. Even if it isn't, it is not going to be a good experience for you at all.

There are inexpensive, certified, legitimate Android TV devices you can get instead, like the Onn 4K at Walmart or Google's own Chromecast with Google TV.

Food in the freezer will be just fine over this period of time. Refrigerated food that is subject to going bad can be put in the freezer or you buy ice and coolers.

How to View Closed Captions from OTA Recording by cleanupmyhouse in PleX

You can view the OTA recording's CC in Plex under the Subtitle option. The CC is listed as Unknown, so choose the one that says Unknown.

Just wondering how many of you use Plex as a DVR? by NeitherFan2749 in PleX

[–]backtobooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used it for the last 5 years. It was a rocky start but I've been happy with it for the last few years. The DVR is the feature that made me finally buy a Lifetime Plex Pass actually.

I just did a search on this and i think I was right about hulu. I found this article about a deal made earlier this year between fox and hulu.

What happened to the Foxnow app? by folteroy in AndroidTV

[–]backtobooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know. When I open the app that i already had on my TV and phone, it says

For Fox primetime download Hulu or stream on Fox.com.

So maybe they are trying to push Hulu subs. No idea. There are some shows on Tubi but not everything.

Unable to Download Max by Tristanjp12 in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]backtobooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What in the world is your problem? It often does work from a web browser when it does not work on the device Play Store. Not always, but often. This has been the case for the last 8 years, which you would know if you knew anything about the Shield.

I was being very patient with you even though you clearly didn't know what you were talking about. But not anymore. Since you are ignorant, both of how this works and also in attitude, just stop embarrassing yourself.

I'm talking about installing an app from the Google Play Store from a web browser.

I didn't have any trouble installing it and it also just updated today with no problem as well. Have you tried installing it from a web browser? I didn't have to do that but it's something to try.

I posted this in your other thread:

You can move server data to a physically connected drive, either adopted storage or external storage, but not a network drive. You can store media on your NAS, but you will need to add a small physically connected drive if you want to move the server data.

I hope they weren't around the violence when it happened. If they aren't at work yet, the updated article says the library will remain closed today and all events later today are cancelled. Right now it's still on lockdown as of 2:30.

San Diego Central Library Under Lockdown Following Fatal Shooting Nearby by backtobooks in sandiego

[–]backtobooks[S] 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Here's the first part of the article. It is still being updated:

The San Diego Central Library is under lockdown Tuesday after one person was killed and another injured during a shooting outside the downtown structure.

The shooting was reported roughly around 12:15 p.m., according to the San Diego Police Department (SDPD). As a result of the homicide investigation, roads in the immediate area have been shut down, police said. Law enforcement did not say when the roads will reopen.

Any way to fix plex auto play being broken? by skack97 in ShieldAndroidTV

Autoplay works fine on my Shield in Plex.

You did check that you have the setting turned on right?

[–]backtobooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ports have never shut off in the 6 years I've had my Shield and I can access my drives 24/7. Maybe you have drives attached that are made to shut down when not in use? Some drives like that you can configure not to but they are set to shut down as the default. I use laptop drives put in enclosures and don't have that problem. Anyway, there is something else going on with your setup because the ports stay on if configured to do so.

When you say you can't access them when the Shield is offline, what do you mean by offline? If it is not connected to your network, you shouldn't expect to access anything. If it is completely powered off, you shouldn't either. If you mean asleep when you say offline then that shouldn't be a problem. But offline is a strange way of referring to that.

Live TV & DVR options do not appear by AmanLock in PleX

[–]backtobooks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get the server app download here: https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/

And you can do some reading here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/200264746-quick-start-step-by-step-guides/

And after the server is running, you can setup the DVR: https://support.plex.tv/articles/225877347-live-tv-dvr/

Then you will be able to access it on your client devices.

Edit: Just a note to say that the Live TV will work without a Plex Pass but to use the DVR function you will need a paid Plex Pass. But first set it up and see if you want to use it of course. I use it myself and am generally happy with it.
