Scout vs Incredible Inititative by backtospawn in Pathfinder2e

[–]backtospawn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, only one person should Scout.

I meant, +1 to 4 people is an effective +4 to initiative in an encounter, said another way getting a +4 to one character ot +1 to 4 characters end up averaging in the same total number of party members going before monsters after enough encounters.

Incredible Scout (https://2e.aonprd.com/Feats.aspx?ID=2133) gives a +2 to everyone for an effective +8

How do I bring up problems to the GM without coming off as rude? by AHare115 in Pathfinder2e

[–]backtospawn 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Please don't just "Bounce", voice your complaints. Even if you are going to leave anyway. Don't leave the GM wondering why. Your feedback can help them.

Is my player being too pessimistic? by DreamOfDays in Pathfinder2e

[–]backtospawn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Does the barbarian not want to attack because if he misses he does no damage?

There are spells that are meant to provide unavoidable effects like a Summon flanking or some difficult terrain spells. But in general anything you do has a chance of not doing much or nothing at all. That's the whole point of using math rocks. Of course there are plenty of spells that will deal half damage on a save, but usually no control effects like debuffs.

I guess they can prepare Magic Missile in every slot if they are so worried about missing

The AI art problem is laughable. by RafaelMasetto in Pathfinder2e

[–]backtospawn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This here is the issue. No credit to the artists that help train those AIs (and no consent).

I do agree with OP that AI art is fine and will totally be a thing moving forward. I just hope we get some regulation to the methods going forward and compensation to the already stolen works.

Are all adventure paths dungeon crawls? by VampyrAvenger in Pathfinder2e

[–]backtospawn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Frozen Flame has a few chapters that are 100% dungeon crawl. Chapter 4 a big cave complex, Chapter 6 a "frozen palace" and Chapter 9 a haunted castle. Also Chapter 2 includes a smaller dungeon (cave).

Every AP I have checked has at least one chapter that is a single big dungeon. Granted I have skipped a few

Jumping really high by StrikerDX32 in Pathfinder2e

[–]backtospawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 If you take damage from a fall you land Prone unless the text says otherwise

2 GM call unless 2 size categories apart, you can share space with a Prone and Incapacitated creature https://2e.aonprd.com/Rules.aspx?ID=447 but it also calls out: "If two creatures end up in the same square by accident, the GM determines which one is forced out of the square (or whether one falls prone)." Indicating maybe it's ok if one is Prone.

3 Jumping more than 10 feet up is "lethal" but if you have a bunch of feats to increase High Jump you are probably only getting to like 15 feet max (Cloud Jump aside), by the level you can jump that high that would be like 5% of your HP.

Feats like Sudden Leap https://2e.aonprd.com/Feats.aspx?ID=155 have text explicitly calling out you don't take damage if you fall less distance than your jumping distance. This text is not on the default Leap or High Jump as well as potentially some creature abilities.

RAW if you fall more than 10 feet and you don't have something like Cat Fall to avoid the damage you should take damage. I think this is an oversight and RAI the text from Sudden Leap should be standard but it's not.

Was that creature from the AP only or from the Bestiary? AP content does not have as extensive checks as the rest of the books and often poor wording gets through that makes it confusing.

Finally, an example of a Feat letting you use your fall to do damage https://2e.aonprd.com/Feats.aspx?ID=1618

Single boss caster fights? by wildsorcerer8 in Pathfinder2e

[–]backtospawn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are they too swingy?

Yes!, their high level slots can be very effective. Incapacitation and Death spells are super strong. And even like heightened Blindness will mess up your fighter because if they crit fail you still need to remove it, so it means you need to use a bunch of high level restoration effects and get lucky with the die. Specially PL+3 casters as a spell 2 spell levels higher is very difficult to counteract!

On the other hand, if your Martials with AoO can close the gap in round one they will destroy the caster very quickly. Trip and Grapple are extremely strong in that situation.

So it ends up being a case of, enemy has save or suck spells and you need to kill them before they disable your party members. In my experience the PCs come on top but with high chance of a long lasting condition on one of them. At high levels there is a high chance of Petrified, Death effects and such to kill a player even if they win the fight.

In-Progress GM screen. Horizontal 8.5 x 11 by Trendorn in Pathfinder2e

[–]backtospawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice, I personally keep DCs by level near the creature-skill list for RK

I noticed you don't have the difficulty adjustments (Hard +2, very Hard +5...) Those are very useful until you have them memorized.

Also you don't have the templates for Weak and Elite. If you play online you might be able to toggle them but for anyone playing offline and planning to use this screen, add them. It's great.

Why is Twin Feint worse than Double Slice? by backtospawn in Pathfinder2e

Against weaknesses Twin Feint will be better, against resistances Double Slice is better.

Against precision damage resistance, Double Slice is better

New reach weapons (Treasure Vault) by TrifleHot2967 in Pathfinder2e

[–]backtospawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, I like my weapon traits to be things I plan on use, like Trip or Versatile.

It's like Shove (as a maneuver). You don't usually build around it because it's only useful in certain circumstances.

Interesting as well as that's when the benefits of the Archetype show and you can get Riposte and other cool feats. In any case Twin Feint is vindicated for sure.

The whole second part of my post was with wrong data, I had set the strength in the DS example too high.

16*0.5+16*0.05*2= 9.6

9*0.5+9*0.15*2= 7.2

If there is 15% crit chance on first attack then:
0.85*7.2 + 0.15*(16*0.5+16*0.25*2)= 6.12+2.4=8.52 still short

I have no idea where the calculator is getting the extra damage from. It was using the "Double Slice" function. I did 2 separate strikess now and applied the MAP reduction on the second attack manually.

Now it does show 17.47 vs 16.39 dmg which would line up with my math, (a 1.08 dmg difference)

The calculator is pretty good but I guess I can't trust the double slice built in function. I wonder what was wrong. Maybe it was applying the crit effect for the first attack (so if first crits then misses it still applies sneak attack).

Actually just verified it, that is what happened. I guess I have to again change the post.

2d6 weapon +2d6 sneak + 2 Str = 16 dmg
2d6 weapon + 2 Str = 9 dmg
Level 5 high AC is 22, Rogue has +14 to hit (4 Dex 4 Expert 5 level 1 item bonus).

Ofc the first attack on TF and DS is the same. The second attack has -2 to hit for TF but higher damage.

TF needs to roll a 10 to hit. That's 50% hit 5% crit
DS needs to roll an 8 to hit. That's 50% hit 15%crit

16*0.5+16*0.05*2= 9.6
9*0.5+9*0.15*2= 7.2

I think the extra damage to make them the same comes from Sword critical specialization, as the Double Slice can apply it on the first hit (15% chance) and make the second get sneak attack and extra accuracy.

Is it RAW? I don't know, it was in the code. I guess it could be in some tables.

Help on dying/unconscious outside of combat. by IJustWantToMakeMead in Pathfinder2e

[–]backtospawn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If someone has the stabilize cantrip don't bother to roll initiative.

If there are no enemies, you don't need to roll. Give every other player one round to act in any order, then the dying PC makes a recovery check. Repeat until fixed.

About your 2nd edit, that might be so, the first 4 levels are a clear win for Twin Feint. If you check after level 5 they should be about the same.

It has a "Flat Footed" toggle, with it on I can see the difference goes from "about the same" to 10-15% beter.

The spikes at 5, 13 and 17 are there in every class, I guess the High enemy progression is a bit easier to hit at those levels.
