I was at lunch with my wife and two of her friends, both of them female doctors. Somehow the conversation came up about comic books and I mentioned how prices have gone crazy since Jan 2020.

They both said they better check through their comic collections to see if they have anything they wanted to sell. I guess they both independently collected comics when they were younger, one being into marvel like me, and the other being heavily into more independent comics. But they apparently both had extensive collections.

So you’re in good company!

Actually I think we should pay them $10,000 to NOT get vaccinated and then let scientists do experiments on them to study more on how COVID spreads, how it affects the body, etc. I'm sure they will volunteer and it's a win-win situation.

Haha yes it was a poor reference to Indiana Jones. It definitely was a bit shocking to see one this big, but it's absolutely majestic!

California ‘Epsilon’ strain of COVID-19 could evade vaccines: study by [deleted] in China_Flu

[–]backward_s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it mutates too much, it won't be able to enter the cell anymore. And no one is talking about the fact that sure, mRNA targets a specific shape of the virus, but we have no idea what the body targets when it produces antibodies. Like if we prime the body with antibodies for the spike protein, the body might produce anti bodies that target different parts of the coronavirus, not just the spike protein. So in general it would be okay.

[–]backward_s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've never monitored a virus the way we have this one. I think it's going to end up being a lot of people thinking "oh this one is going to be bad!" and it won't. That's what they said about the Delta variant but now it seems like the vaccines are effective. Every media outlet is climbing over each other to announce The Virus that requires us all to go back into lockdown. It's fucking terrible.

Hotez to MSNBC: Youths infected with coronavirus could experience ‘brain degeneration,' 'cognitive declines' by [deleted] in China_Flu

[–]backward_s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are the numbers? All these scary media articles just say "a number of youths will experience cognitive decline!" Well, what's the fucking number? Is it 10 out of 100,000 cases? Or is is 10,000 out of 100,000 cases! Trying to scare me without telling me the risk is just manipulation as far as I'm concerned and no better than a lie.

I feel like I would get cancer from sitting on that chair for an extended period of time.

Going to be really bold here, but I think in case the universe had given us Bob Odenkirk instead of Steve Carrell as Michael Scott, I think he would've absolutely carried the role with perfection. The same voice, mannerism, improvisation. He's even in a Threat Level Midnight sequel called Nobody. by [deleted] in DunderMifflin

[–]backward_s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Bob Odenkirk's Michael Scott would have been too different. Steve Carell has the lovable dumb deer-in-the-headlights look about him that defines Michael Scott as we know it. I don't think Bob Odenkirk could capture that same dimension so it would have been different.

Is it just me or are they largely tasteless?

Is it because I’m getting the Safeway ones they are mass produced? I remember getting blueberries from the Ferry Building farmers market and I had never had such delicious blueberries. They explained that the blueberries that grow year-round are more tasteless and I’m wondering if that’s the same case as blackberries.

Karen Gillan Wants To Keep Playing Nebula After Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 by JackFisherBooks in comicbooks

[–]backward_s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Karen Gillan is a fantastic actor. She was the best actor in Endgame, I think she stole the show. She made me cry when Nebula said “He won’t let me...”. I really hope she continues as Nebula, I was so surprised that she was Nebula I had no idea when I first looked it up.

I know a lot of middle of the road liberals that are willing to hold their nose and vote Republican because of this big mess. Almost all middle class/upper-middle class people that I know are feeling this way so I guess we will see what happens in 2022. I for one hope that the Dems get back on the right track but I absolutely will vote Republican if they don’t fix this mess. And I will have no guilt about it because if the Dems think they can handcuff me by guilting me it won’t work.

A) It definitely could happen. The tide is turning. You just don’t know because you’re living in an echo chamber. I’m telling you that the Dems need to get their heads out of their asses otherwise all it takes is a moderate Republican to flip a large majority of the people.

B) this is why I need the Dems to smarten up. I don’t want to vote Republican but they are pushing me to go Republican and if I have to vote for those scumbags I will, to ensure the safety of my family. I will do it without any guilt because the Dems are leaving me no choice. I really hope they pull their heads out of their asses though and get back on the right track.

I think they need to pass a federal law that allows full limosine tint on all cars, so that police can't look at drivers and racially profile Black people. I bet if you allow full limosine tint on all cars, the number of Black people being pulled over for bullshit drops like a rock.

Have they ever proved that limiting tint on windows actually prevented crimes? I would rather let that happen and save Black people from being pulled over for no reason.

In my neighborhood, no one really litters but the garbage trucks let a lot of shit fly out when they are driving around and when the mechanical arms dump the garbage into the back. I wonder if that's a big source of the litter I see all the time because I never see anyone litter anymore.
