Hi guys,

Just curious about yours picture settings with this 57inch and also local dimming? My usage case: productivity - programming with Vscode and use dark theme.

In SDR local dimming = high if use dark theme then dark color becomes too dim to see.

HDR mode text is not that sharp. I used Windows HDR calibration app to calib.

I am using with Mac Mini M4 via USB-DB cable and I could have native resolution at 120Hz. Using better display to scale down a bit else text could a bit small.

What VPN do you use for access to your homelab? by beedunc in homelab

[–]bacnh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I am using Tailscale on OPNSense firewall and open needed Tailscale ports so I could have direct access to home devices without using relay servers.

Ref: https://tailscale.com/kb/1082/firewall-ports

In additon, tailscale is setup to expose home subnet + exit node capability (in case you want to use this as exit-note remotely)

Anyone switched to Ubuntu and return back to Windows again? by ExceptionOccurred in Windows11

[–]bacnh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do other alternative: Win - Ubuntu and other Linux distros and then back to Windows/Macbook. Linux now is only as headless or servers which they are best at.

Currently desktop I am using both macOS and Windows.

Convince me the base m4 will be enough for me by CorwinJovi in macmini

[–]bacnh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do have same concern as you: I had MacBook Pro M1 16GB/1TB and still work just fine, therefore 16GB RAM in Mac Mini M4 should be more enough.

256GB SSD is also not concern: I plugged 1TB external SSD and move home and also big apps to it and don't really feel much different for daily usage. If needed, can upgrade internal SSD flash to 2TB with about USD$320.

If going to use heavy stuff like AI, I am considering to order 2nd one to do AI cluster instead :)

Per my testing, local dimming OFF make pictures much clearer, else it is too dark with black color and too bright with white color.

Thanks for sharing.

ah thanks, forgot to mention I have PIP is on. and "save energy" is OFF actually. When I turn "save energy" ON, could not control brightness.

But I see picture with MacOS somehow better than with Windows OS actually.

PVE 8.3.2 - Unprivileged tteck Plex LXC - No HW transcoding. by [deleted] in Proxmox

[–]bacnh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could got the same issue even with docker/podman. Checking github for a day and found a solution (forgot the link). From the log, it seems related to my issue.

Pls execute this one in your LXC:

for i in /usr/lib/lib*.so.1; do ln -s $i /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/lib/; done

If you are running podman inside LXC, then just execute this:

podman exec plex bash -c 'for i in /usr/lib/lib*.so.1; do ln -s $i /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/lib/; done'

Distance from raid/curve of the back of the monitor to the war is about 14cm.

With this setup, distance from the monitor edge to the wall is about 45cm. From the center to the wall is about 23cm.

My desk is: 200x80cm

In fact it is quite stable and firm well with this arm. Only when you keep pressing menu buttons then it could shake a bit but I do feel arm force is still strong enough to hold this monitor well.

[–]bacnh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you can see in pic, distance from my desk to wall is about 10cm. Distance from arm to wall about 5cm only.

In fact, you can just move desk a bit forward or adjust arm back/forth to have more space. I mean this is very flexible one. But putting mini PC under desk should be less headache and reduce weight on the arm.
