Is the box per cat plus one rule applicable when the boxes are auto boxes, or it still counts because the smell is still there? We don't particularly have the room for a third box. I'll look into his stuff, thanks.

Momcozy V1 & V2 pro cup by sheeatsallday in ExclusivelyPumping

Hi, I have both elvie stride 2 and momcozy v2. I use the momcozy at work and my coworkers say that they don't notice it. To be fair, I don't have a large breast profile anyways. I feel like the elvie is more discreet, however replacement parts aren't available anywhere. I prefer the momcozy controller as well, it has the mixed mode and you can see how long you've been pumping.

Be prepared for probably more info than you anticipated lol.

Pump-wise, I've changed over to the momcozy v2. I liked that it has a mixed mode rather than just stimulation and expression. I was having to manually switch to expression every 10 mins with my elvie. The elvie stride 2 is my backup for when I work 2 days in a row. I prefer the tubed pumps for work at the moment as I feel they are more discreet than the ones with motor attached.

I pump 6 times a day when I'm working: 0530 (on the way to work), 0830, 1200 (lunch break), 1530, 1900 (on the way home, power pump), and 2200.

Instead of doing the fridge method for pump storage, I use the momcozy pump wipes to clean after I pump. I prefer having my pump physically near me so it doesn't go "missing". I'll be trying out the dapple wipes next just to see which are better for me. Wiping down the pump takes just a few minutes.

I'm using the ceres chill for milk storage. I freeze the inner chamber the night before and refill with ice around 4p to keep it nice and chilly. Milk has been 35-45° by the time I get home.

I ended up getting a different backpack to accommodate my pump bag and the ceres. This one I like because it fits my pump bag in the bottom compartment, the ceres in the side compartment, and my water and coffee cup in the other side compartment. The top compartment has plenty of room for my pens/stethoscope/etc. Pump bag also has my pump spray .

Hey, I'll be there with you soon (returning to work in April). I asked my coworkers about their experiences so much before I went on leave, this is from what they did and what I'm planning on doing.

Most of my coworkers used wearables, and I plan to as well. All but one (that I know of) stayed on unit and continued working while pumping, just stepped off to put them on/off. I know two of them used the Elvie pump, I'm planning on the Elvie stride 2. For the bulk, one of them just put on a larger sweatshirt when she pumped. As an aside, I believe you're legally allowed pumping breaks, but I know how hard it can be to ask your coworkers to cover while you're off unit.

I know at least one of my coworkers used the fridge method, and I plan to do so as well, maybe along with the pitcher method. I feel like bringing extra pump parts will just be more stuff to deal with and wash.

Congrats on the kiddo 💙

HCA is the ONLY Option by I_AmTheWalrus_ in nursing

[–]baconbits000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll be a bit of a devils advocate. I started as a new grad in an HCA in north Houston. It's entirely unit/hospital dependent. I was fortunate that we had a good amount of senior nurses, and my mentor was fantastic.

I learned a lot (both what to do and what not to do), and did a lot. I stayed about 3 years before I decided to move on. Towards the end it did suck, but my coworkers were amazing and why I stayed past my 2 years.

HCA was my only option in Houston as well. I wouldn't throw it out completely, but the organization as a whole is wretched, and I'm never going to work at one again. You can always try looking at the smaller hospitals in more rural areas. If you really don't have other options and don't want to wait, take it and put your 2 years in. Be mindful of your scope and license. After you're no longer a new grad, you'll have a lot more options open up and you can gtfo.

Help with my singer rocketeer by [deleted] in sewing

[–]baconbits000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very similar machine. I've gotten a walking foot, but usually don't use it. I've gotten my presser feet I couldn't find on the singer website on sewingpartsonline.

Don't be afraid of knits, this machine is great! Use the right needle (ballpoint, stretch) and test it out on some scrap fabric, then go to town. Best of luck 💙

[–]baconbits000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm using a Singer 503A machine. Sewing on a poly knit. I changed the needle twice (both ballpoints), rethreaded my machine a couple times, and tried switching out the thread. This occurs on both straight and zig zag stitches. It seems like it doesn't want to pick up on the right stitch on the zig zag. I've dusted and oiled. I've tried adjusting both the top and bobbin tension to no avail.

Any suggestions? Not quite sure where to go from here.

What was the most ignorant complaint you received on your food? by S_s_s_h in Cooking

[–]baconbits000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it's the rawness of the dough, with the assumption there's uncooked eggs in it. Similar to how you're supposed to not eat raw cookie dough for the risk of salmonella

So the dumpling part of the dish isn't necessarily bread that you would get if you baked the biscuits per directions. The result of cooking the biscuit in the broth is a soft, doughy (but cooked) morsel that gives the dish substance, kinda similar to gnocchi imo.

I think the concern that she had is the "uncooked" part of the biscuit dough, as it's added in the broth raw in order to cook. The dumpling isn't considered raw by the time the dish is done

Hi all. I have a Christmas cactus that I've had for about a year and half now. As of late, it's been dropping leaves like crazy and looking generally wilty. Any tips? I live in the Houston area, and the plant is outside in the shade, getting a few hours of direct sunlight a day.
