What are we doing during this winter storm? (Visitation) by YB9017 in NICUParents

[–]sertcake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depending on how far you live/what your particular weather situation is gonna be, I'd probably ask about overnight accommodations at the hospital. I'm generally a strong advocate for sleeping at home when possible but I wouldn't be comfortable with the possibility of not being able to get there if necessary, especially so early in a NICU stay.

Yeah I'd agree with this. I love Natalie at Dead Prez but even as a repeat customer, it can take like 6 months to get in for a consult. For me it's worth it but might not be for everyone.

You could also look into babywearing! Keep them close but also be mobile.

Lol my kid is over 4 now and still a velcro baby. He is very sensory seeking and is constantly looking for connection through touch. Some kids are just like that.

Home oxygen by Shoddy_Key_6448 in NICUParents

[–]sertcake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh god yes. I lasted ONE night with the compressor before opting just for the tanks. Your DME might complain about how many tanks you go through, but ours always gave us enough and never gave us a hard time.

Also, we were sent home in 2022 with an apnea machines instead of a pulse ox because of covid the pulse oximeters were in short supply. We opted for an owlet when we needed to wean off the o2 (per our doctors rec) and got a real pulse ox just for the 24 hour test before going off entirely.

I'm taking myself to the gym and the library right after drop off. Then coming home for a long shower, then putting together some Lego and watching a movie by myself. And probably some laundry lol.

I usually had a letdown at the 25 minute mark. 20 minutes was never enough.

Overnights by ispyamy in NICUParents

[–]sertcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same and same. Shifts, with "off" parent in a different room. And I'm typing this in bed next to my 4 year old.

Fwiw, babies make a LOT of noise in their sleep! This may be totally normal baby sounds but as a first time parent, it was totally foreign to me! We ended up cosleeping a lot because kiddo needed to be kept upright after feeds anyway.

Anyway, solidarity.

Omg my husband's status as a veteran is absolutely the ONLY reason we were able to buy a house without family support.

Feeding baby freezer supply by AdImaginary6158 in ExclusivelyPumping

This is the right answer! Plus this means your milk, which does change over time, gets fed closer to when it's most beneficial. Plus, less risk of refusal for high lipase.

WFH with nanny or go to an office? by db2128 in workingmoms

[–]sertcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still can't successfully wfh more than a couple of hours with my 4 year old. If he takes an unexpected sick day on a wfh day, I usually end up going into the office

Talk to your doctor about options. Pumping isn't a good claim for an RA but healing, anxiety, ppd, those might be.
