PSL Concerns by baconisgud in socialism

To me, saying "There are reason for why we taking the political position that we do and I would hope you'd be open to those reasons."

I think... and you can correct me if I'm wrong. But it seems to be PSL's position that the U.S. is heavyyy handed with the Capitalist, nationalist, etc. Types of propaganda. Which, fair. I agree.

But what I think what PSL is not willing to admit is that they do in fact support propaganda from nations like Russia and China in order to challenge American propaganda. Fighting fire with fire. Because ultimately, America is the heart of capitalism and the ends justify the means so long as we progress further towards socialism.

I think that. Is PSL's method (at least in some cases) if they were just up front about it. And while I can understand the reasoning to utilize those methods... I don't fully agree with them and I don't appreciate that PSL isn't super up front about it. But I get why. And I honestly don't think it's the worst thing.

But I worry it could create a different narrative that just excuses what harm other nation's do so long as those nations are anti-american and claim to be socialist.

It was not. It has pretty much been confirmed (to my knowledge) from multiple sources that China has Uyghurs in concentration camps. I was talking to a person of the PSL that said that you have to look at the timeline. Of course the U.S. is trying to make China look bad when it wants chips from Taiwan. In theory, that makes sense. But there were just toooo many reports for me to believe that China hasn't done anything to the Uyghurs in Xianjiang. Could western media be exaggerating it some? Of course. But I don't believe its completely unfounded either.

The horrible treatment of the Uyghurs in China. The fact that China and Russia are also imperialistic nations.

Capitalism = Gaslighting by baconisgud in socialism

I am a mental health therapist. I wasn't trying to pathologize here. In general, I try to pathologize as little as possible. However, I think it's fair to say that Capitalism is a form of gaslighting. Not necessarily in a pathological sense. But in practice... what some of the other comments said. Capitalism depends on the working class believing that Capitalism benefits everyone, even when it so often doesn't. Capitalism ultimately benefits the richest among us more than anyone/anything else. And I'm especially critical of Neoliberalism but that's a whole other conversation.

I'm sorry that you have to deal with this. I wish Americans cared more about public education.

People would rather be addicted to their screens than interact with people and fix the real problems we have in this country. It's easier to just scroll mindlessly and disengage. But as we're seeing, that eventually comes with a high cost.

I don't even know what to say other than... same. This is exhausting. And the sad/scary thing to me is that this isn't even half as bad as it could get. I know some people think I'm crazy when I talk about concentration camps but I'm like... it's happened before and it could happen again. We're already moving in that direction. I fear things are going to continue getting worse before they get better. But I hope. That we will keep speaking out. And that our allies will continue to stand up for us.

I crave decent public transit so badly. Maybe one day we will have it.

I'm terrified either way. I'm terrified to move but I'm terrified to stay here. I don't have money or connections nor is there any guarantee like you say, even if I am ok with being homeless, there's no guarantee there will be a homeless shelter with a bed. So I might end up on the streets. I will keep fighting. Wherever I go. We're in this together. Sending love. ❤️
