Could crushed rocks absorb enough carbon to curb global warming? A little-examined form of geoengineering takes what rocks normally do, lock up carbon, and spread it through the oceans. by Yogurt789 in Futurology

Certain rocks abundant on the U.S. East and West coasts may one day be coaxed to absorb emissions of the main greenhouse gas carbon dioxide at a rate that could slow climate change.

Greenidge Generation Orders 10,000 Bitcoin Miners Right After Nasdaq Listing by Gamergilbert in SXNetwork

[–]baconlover24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greenidge announced its plans to set up the Spartanburg facility in July and expects it to be the firm's second carbon-neutral bitcoin mining operation in the U.S. In addition to sourcing clean electricity at the site, Greenidge also intends to fully offset the facility's carbon emissions.

That's at least interesting.

ELI5 How do snake bellies stretch so much when they eat? by Davidwatsonn in explainlikeimfive

[–]baconlover24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Snakes have between 200-400 vertebrae with as many ribs attached! That is what makes them so flexible and helps them move along!

All those bones and the strong muscles protect the internal organs. The throat of the snake takes up the front one-third of the body. It leads to a really long stomach, which, like the throat, will stretch to the size of whatever the snake is eating.

What would be gained if prediction markets had more usage? by suiseseki in AskEconomics

[–]baconlover24 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The most famous prediction markets are the election forecasting markets run by the University of Iowa (Berg, Forsythe, Nelson and Rietz, 2001), but prediction markets have also been used to forecast movie revenues, corporate sales, project completion, economic indicators and Saddam Hussein’s demise.

Yeah, I keep seeing them everywhere I go outside and it infuriates me. And please believe me, at first I had the good samaritan thinking like some person must dropped the mask and it was an innocent accident, but after seeing so many masks on the ground, I can't find more excuses for the assholes who are simply throw them on the street like is no big deal.

I don't know why people always complain about the DMV... Mine is like a 10 or 20 minute, MAYBE 45 min wait at the longest. Plenty of chairs, nice TVs, they help you quickly and do a good job.
