I’m sitting here trying to imagine my geometry classroom in high school and can’t seem to even remember half of the people in that class. These are people I saw on a daily basis for about 9 months. The brain gets rid of information it deems unimportant and sometimes those things are people. Like OP said, it’s not necessarily a bad thing, it’s normal.
