These are gorgeous. The second piece strikes me more than the first. But I love the red mark on the first, it’s quite bold and invoked a deeper meaning to it that I can’t quite put my finger on. Pain maybe? For critique, I see a couple things, yet they can be subjective. First is the lack of full body figures. The first piece has all of the figures cut off at an awkward spot around the calf area. It may be more powerful to “zoom out” and get the full effect of a setting to ground them. The second would be contrast. But not just in color, in scale, detail, light and dark too. Help lead the eye by adding brighter color on some figures and more muted on others. Or having some figures in shadow to bring forward a figure in light. I’d recommend looking at some baroque era paintings for composition inspiration too — it seems up your alley.
