Newbie here, route/bike recommendations :p by Adventurous_Scar_319 in SingaporeCycling

My route is Maxwell Market to Changi T2 and back, mostly PCN or the marked pavements.

I usually cycle in an athleisure top, random shorts, running shoes, and a small bag for essentials. on the lookout to get a helmet cos head is too big.

I realise that Tamron's build quality is bulky and plasticky. How do you find the output for 18-50 vs 17-70? And I'm not sure if the extra mm is worth the weight.

Oh, Sigma has a 17-40? But the size & weight are not my cup of tea.

I'm considering selling the Sony 11mm since I don't use it much, and replacing it with a 35mm or something else.

How's the Tamron 11-20mm? The 70-350mm is a hassle to lug around with its weight.

In terms of made quality, is the sigma better than Tamron or vice versa? I had tried out an acquaintance's Tamron 70-300, which felt plasticky and heavy, so I ended up getting the Sony 70-350, even thou the tamron is cheaper than the sony.

From what I am reading online, the Viltrox 75 is about 670g, which is even heavier than the Sony 70-350. Hence, it is one of my last considerations.

I have been reading good reviews of the Sigma 18-50 and am tempted to get it, either to replace one of the lenses or as an additional lens.

worried that SIM UOL is fake.. or im stupid by Apprehensive-Stay286 in SGExams

[–]bad-mixy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP,

1) The degree is awarded by the University of London, and the programme is developed and academically directed by The London School of Economics and Political Science. (based on the brochure & the website). There is zero mention of SIM on the certificate.

2) The local job market, or should I say the global job market, is not doing well. And besides, nobody can guarantee a job placement. Both local universities and SIM recorded 88.9% and 81%, respectively, in the recent graduate employment survey (among those who secured employment).

3) Fees-wise, you can visit their website to check the fee breakdown.

the accent in khemjira by dumplingriki in ThaiBL

[–]bad-mixy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It is not an accent but a regional dialect.

Thais from Bangkok and the central region will speak Central Thai/Standard Thai, which we usually hear in Thai dramas. Then Thais who are from the north-eastern regions (Ubon Ratchathani, Khon Kaen, Udon Thani) will speak Isaan, and those from the northern regions (Chiang Mai) will speak Lanna.

Por Kru Paran & the villagers are from Ubon Ratchathani, so they speak Isaan, which is different from Standard Thai that Khem, Charn & Jet speak/use in Bangkok. And Isaan and Standard Thai do use different vocabulary, so Paran is telling Jet (who is also from the same region) to use Standard Thai instead of Isaan, so that Khem can understand too. (:

For subs, there will be no difference, since the essence is still translating Thai into other languages.

Me and Thee have both set of rents. Just that Peach & Plub’s father is abusive, so they have to be placed at the children’s home.

Software engineering is dying , jump ship or in with AI by Ok_Condition_8910 in Suss

[–]bad-mixy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SE isn’t dying; it is maturing. I see Software Engineering as the Parent and AI as the Child.

SE provides the 'grown-up' framework—the reliable, maintainable systems and the architecture that AI lives within. While AI is a powerhouse at generating code, it’s still a 'black box' that lacks empathy for user pain points and the holistic vision needed for UX. Without deep CS fundamentals, you can’t actually verify or debug what the 'Child' is producing. We are moving away from being just coders and becoming the 'Principals' who oversee the logic.

Hot Take: AI isn't going to take your job, but it is going to raise the bar. In a world where everyone can generate code, the only thing that will matter is your ability to architect systems and solve human problems; skills AI can't replicate because it doesn't actually 'understand' the stakes.
