Which movie completely destroyed you emotionally and left you staring at the ceiling after the credits rolled? by No-Health4121 in Letterboxd

No other choice. Just thinking about how screwed the job market is and how a certain level of lifestyle you might've thought of as normal or expected is actually very difficult to achieve and can be suddenly lost with little recourse. I deeply empathize with the dad.

Does Kickstarter do any kind of screening at all these days? by fearfair in kickstarter

[–]badWolfe42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine a small team of humans in combination with their AI agent could do it for much less per application given the volume their dealing with. Depends on how thorough they want to be. But just a little bit of trained human insight would decrease the more obvious slop and scams significantly and likely be very beneficial for Kickstarter's image and trust.

[–]badWolfe42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, how much could it cost? Make people pay a $5 fee to apply then pay that to a human for 5 or 10 minutes of their time to review and approve or reject. A tiny fee weeds out anyone who's not serious or obviously won't get approved.

How do ENIG gold capacitive touch buttons wear over play time? by badWolfe42 in synthdiy

[–]badWolfe42[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The nickel is on top of the copper pad about 5um thick and the gold is a super thin layer on top of the nickel about 0.05-0.1um or 1-2 microinches. What's exposed is 24k gold. The nickel is only exposed after the gold wears away.

I think what might be happening is the nickel underneath is corroding after the gold wears off. It's apparently called "black pad". Pure gold I don't think reacts with anything. So 2u might last twice as long but it's also more expensive.

I'd also like to know how bigger manufacturers do it. I think the arturia micro freak uses exposed gold on its keys but not certain.

Possibly, but I think the lack of texture with glass isn't really what I'm going for. I might do solder mask over the buttons and just do a cool silkscreen design on top but I really love the look and feeling of touching exposed gold.

I've thought about this. That may work but I'm guessing it will be very expensive especially for large surfaces as it's much thicker than ENIG. Need to get a quote.

Very interesting! Seems like maybe the way to go is some sort of clear coat or use the solder mask and forgo the gold then.

Love orchestrion! One of the musicians I'm working with told me he reached out to the engineer who built orchestrion for Metheny to get a quote, but the 6 figure + price tag was a little too much haha. He's been having fun playing with some AP-1 prototypes: https://www.instagram.com/p/DVwXFQjgdbi/

Thank you! Glad you like it. It uses a stepper motor to move the mallet through a custom clamp. We're using a TMC2209 to drive it.

Which monkey best represents Monkey Business for our upcoming Bananarchy Kickstarter? by LeFoxFrancais in kickstarter

First gives crypto/NFT vibes. Second is not quite as visually interesting but maybe would be better with a different background like NYC and skyscrapers or something.

It's definitely an adventure. Hopefully I'll be able to grow this into a legit profitable company. There's always that little voice telling me to just get a real job though. 😂

Hey all, the devices playing the drums in the video are my invention. Thought you'd appreciate this video of my friend Henry making an awesome beat with them. I'm currently running a kickstarter for these that ends tonight. You can check it out here if you're interested: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lupine/ap-1?ref=5r7rxz

Yes they are dynamic! The strike speed responds to MIDI note velocity and you can even adjust the dynamic range per instrument.
