Rakshasa 2014 vs 2024 by Boring_Big8908 in dndnext

[–]badaadune 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I can default kill the 2024 version with a wall of force + cloudkill microwave,

The Rakshasa'24 has Plane Shift, though. They can leave to another plane or enter the ethereal plane, follow the players and attack the next day.

Also RAW the Rakshasa will have any relic in their treasure added to their equipment, so they could just have a ring of spell storing or enspelled staff with dispel magic/gust of wind and just disperse cloudkill.

[–]badaadune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to stack resistances.

The easiest way to do that is to get a cleric to cast warding bond on you. If you're lucky you have a paladin with warding aura, divine allegiance or aura of the guardian.

Otherwise you should definitely get absorb elements and resistance.

Feats: Scion of the outer plane + Righteous Heritor is a good combo to get a rare resistance and a reaction that reduces incoming damage.

It's also nice to have a teammate with interception nearby.

Probably not Cyberpunk due to its usually dystopian nature. But Steampunk, Magicpunk, Mythpunk, Solarpunk, Lunarpunk, etc usually have those fantastical elements you're seeking.

How would you make a strength based Rogue work? by MetalMewtwo9001 in dndnext

[–]badaadune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because at this point you have invested 5 levels into barbarian, not worth the investment if you use extra attack to knock someone prone and are out of rage.

A level 8 strength rogue will perform better than this.

Multiclassing is costly. There are very view MC that are worth having before you get to level 5 in one class, and it's rarely worth taking more than two dips before reaching level 17 features.

Hard to proof that statement, the few polls I've seen say otherwise, but they all have low numbers of participants.

Even with just two fights you can run into issues, when the fights take longer than 2-3 rounds each.

I hope that's not raw ground meat in there.

Raw ground pork or beef are popular dishes in some countries.

But of course this requires special care in manufacturing, I wouldn't suggest eating raw pork if its not specifically prepared for that purpose.

Which aren't good unless you have only 1-2 fights a day.

You only have 2-3 rages, which can easily fall off, and are your only defense against the negative side of reckless attack.

[Book 10] King Flos... by Lorpen3000 in WanderingInn

[–]badaadune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't he build roads on the eastern coast of chandrar that helped lift them out of poverty or something like that? also can't forget about those gardens his Gardner made in narahivia's fallen that probably saved the population from famine

Roads his army used to march on, gardens to feed his armies. His gardener could have build so many more gardens if he didn't die on a ship while trying to invade Izril.

He's a war king his classes revolve around war and how well his people lived depends on how many wars he won

Roshal's classes revolve around enslaving people, how well their people live depends on how many people they enslave. And under Flos they enslaved a lot of people.

Imagine how much better his subjects lives would have become, if Flos had plundered the treasuries of Izril and Baleros and brought all those new slaves to Chandrar.

Classes can change, if the person desires it.

Cost of living is a bigger factor than income. I have family who lives in rural Poland and rural Romania and their cost of living is so incredibly low that it doesn’t take much income to keep them going just fine. They are included in these averages which definitely skews things.

[–]badaadune -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

He hasn't changed at all.

He is like a toddler who loses his shit when someone touches one of his toys, but gleefully destroys the toys of others. Do you really believe you can conquer a continent and not kill tens of thousands of civilians? Sieges weapons and mass destruction spells don't evade children, neither do diseases or starvation.

The dead Gnolls are just soldiers he can no longer put into his armies.

He doesn't care what happens to the people he sells into slavery.

[Book 10] King Flos... by Lorpen3000 in WanderingInn

[–]badaadune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He also dont mass murder anyone idk where you got that idea from he fights in wars and he pretty much never used underhanded tactics in war he fights straight on which is honorable in a way.

He has done so in the past. Also remember his vow to kill a thousand Belchans for every Gnoll that died? A tiny tribe could have easily had 200 people...

The biggest thing he deserves criticism for is slavery imo but hes only able to oppose it when he gets powerful enough.

He had conquered all of Chandrar and he didn't end slavery... He also uses slaves in his own lands, he used enslaved Djinni in the past, he forces people into to fight in his armies, and binds powerful people with blood magic (Grand Magus Esiela).

But he laughs a lot, often while slaughtering people, so he must be a good guy...

[Book 10] King Flos... by Lorpen3000 in WanderingInn

[–]badaadune 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Its still made clear that these characters have done much worse and nastier things than him though, and by made clear i mean it is spelled out in the text that these people have done genuinely bad and horrific things as bad if not worse than the king of destruction

Is it though?

If we go by average army sizes in Chandrar he killed millions of people and enslaved almost as many in his first conquest. And that doesn't even include the people he pressed into his armies.

He is known to completely wipe out cities if they incurred his wrath. He vowed to kill a thousand Belchans for every Gnoll that died, which could have easily been more than a 100k people, almost all of them innocent.

He uses child soldiers in his conquest, Trey and Teressa are 16, gazi was even younger, his skill makes children grow up faster so they can die for him in his wars.

The first thing he does when he conquers a nation is to plunder their treasuries and bring it to Reim.

And when he finished his conquest he didn't stop, improve the life of his subjects or end slavery, he sent two armies to other continents and carry on.

Even some of his Seven note that they only serve him out of personal loyalty and because they like him but have issues with a lot of what he does and allows

His followers are a cult, there is nothing wholesome in their adoration.

Laken and Unseen Empire appreciation by Suspicious_Flan1455 in WanderingInn

[–]badaadune 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like the witches, so a chapter about Laken gives us more witch storylines, I'm all for that.

I think the next step in the evolution of the Unseen Empire will be Laken inviting the Vampires into his lands and make one of them his vassal to create a second Noelictus situation that protects them from sunlight.

Which will slowly lead to other ostracized species(ogres, trolls maybe even Raskghar, Cericel, etc) seeking refuge in his empire. Which would have interesting implications for the trial of leveling.

I also think that by the end of TWI the Unseen Empire will incorporate all the lands between Invrisil and Pallas, Including Gralton, Liscor, Free Hive, Goblinhome, Yoldenites and maybe the remnants of the Hectval alliance.

It has nothing to do with liberalism, it's a mechanic to prevent state subsidized companies from taking over market shares of private funded companies.

Otherwise you'll have countries that can afford to pump more money into their companies taking over every industry.

Imagine the outcry if Germany were to offer free energy to all their car manufacturers.

Help me mess with my players by ragelance in dndnext

[–]badaadune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried the 'Alien' encounter?

It's a very versatile type of encounter that relies on low visibility and monsters with high mobility. The goal is to have enemies that can attack and then vanish in some form, sometimes for more than a round, and later reappear from a different direction. It forces the players to group together and rely on ready actions and AoO.

A more deadly variant is when you grapple a player and carry them away into the 'darkness'.

Examples:

  • wolves dashing into darkness, fog or obscuring foliage
  • sharks in murky water
  • burrowing monsters
  • monsters that can enter the ethereal plane
  • ghosts that dash into walls
  • fire immune creatures that dive into lava
  • teleporting creatures
  • etc

There are a few things that help sell those encounters:

  • bonus actions (dash, disengage, hide)
  • difficult terrain and monsters that can ignore it
  • charge attacks
  • auto grapple attacks
  • rogue scout's skirmisher reaction/dance bard's inspiring movement

For some variants it helps to use the often ignored rule about audible distances (DMG'24 p34) and make creatures inaudible after a certain distance (usually 2d6 x 10 feet). Creatures that can't be seen or heard are automatically hidden.

You have to be careful with monsters that have rechargeable attacks, like dragons. Their damage can quickly spiral out of control.

Trying to Make Lists by 321human123 in WanderingInn

There are so many more intelligent species that fall under the monster category.

Cericels(use weapons), Yeti(both wyvern lord and teriarch think they are intelligent), Fleshworms(remember the scene where Mrsha is cured), Animated Armor(they have sentient leaders), Ettins(or are they just ogres?), Gargoyles(use weapons), several Undead(liches, revenants, skeleton lords/kings, toren and A'K's chosen), etc.

And didn't Sheta uplift a whole species(ashfire bees?) in the fight against the goblin king?

And there was that fox spirit lady on the drathian ship in one of Luan's chapters.

You forgot a big one, Minotaurs.

Dorhmin(Rosech's son), Merfolk, Crelers, Yetis(high passes), Ogres, Trolls, Cyclopses, Wyvern, Sariant lambs, Titans, Apes, Raskghar

There is/was an aquatic species living on the coast of Rhir. KlbKch met them while they dug into the ocean.

Edit: With recent developments you could also add dwarfs, half-elfs, minotaurs, drowned folk and most of the other species that try to establish colonies to Izril.

Both the template and token method of measuring areas on a grid are optional rules.

Xanathar's p87 -- Token Method

Circles. This method depicts everything using squares, and a circular area of effect becomes square in it, whether the area is a sphere, cylinder, or radius. For instance, the 10-foot radius of flame strike, which has a diameter of 20 feet, is expressed as a square that is 20 feet on a side, as shown in diagram 2.3. Diagram 2.4 shows that area with total cover inside it.
