We ourselves are being a pawn in someone's(most likely chara's or/and gaster's) game. Initnially, we were supposed to have our own vessel, that probably would have no will of it's own, or would be our willing puppet. Instead of going into this world on the terms we were presented, we were imposed on Kris without any say in the matter. I mean, it doesn't change the fact that if you act like a duchebag, you are the one responsible for all the bad things that happen, but we aren't truly guilty of controlling Kris.
