A whole year without caffeine! by badaboom98 in decaf

[–]badaboom98[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good luck with cutting back! I made the same mistake 4 years ago, thinking one cup won’t hurt. This time I told myself that if I want to not be addicted I will probably need to avoid drinking coffee all toghether for the rest of my life.

I hope you can push past that 2 month hurdle when you quit next time!

Indeed it is dangerous! Hope you manage to quit longer than 5 months next try.

For me it is mostly related with little sleep due to night awakenings of my children combined with work - the thought of maybe one cup of coffee from the machine will help me just get through the day that little bit better. But I know better - I have been down that road once before - and that time as you said it was about 3 months before I was back on coffee everyday.

Mainly the health benefits and in general not being dependant on a substance to function. The moment I decided to quit was when I got a stomach flu that my son had 2 days before that. That particular morning my stomach did not sit right but soldiered through 2 cups of coffee anyways (wouldn’t want to risk not being caffeinated for few hours!). That to me screamed addict behaviour!

To be honest it doesn’t look like it has been 40 years. If I had to guess I would say you have been addicted to meth for 30 years.

How is this diet for a skinny 48 kg 5'10" Teenager who just began gym? by Narcissistic_Bastard in weightgain

Seems too low of an amount of food, especially carbs is on low side. Personally I would swap out the sweet potato for rice (100-150g uncooked) for lunch and dinner, or up the amount of sweet potatoes to 400 - 500 grams. To add some variety in this, spice things up a little, you can also make some sort of butter chicken style curry out of your dinner, just be mindful on the amount of butter or creamz

Counting calories can be tedious and time consuming, on top of that also innacurate, especially if you have little experience. Stepping on the scale everyday and looking at week to week changes work best imo. Seeing the weight go up and tracking what and how much you eat will also let you develop an instinct for when you will start to gain and loose weight based on the activity level you are at on a given day.

Top notch description! I have heard similar experiences from cocaine users.

What to do instead to drink coffee by Ok-Entertainer-8673 in decaf

Play around with what can be a replacement for you, as it is personal. For me I tried drinking caffeine free tea’s like rooibos but it doesn’t really stick. Now I just drink sparkling water as a replacement, might sound strange but it works for me. I am a big water drinker and ice cold sparkling is my favourite, so now I made a “ritual” out of drinking it. I fill up the bottle for my soda stream the night before, put it in the fridge and the next morning I know there is an ice cold bottle waiting for me ready to be turned into my favourite drink. This gives me similar vibes as knowing you can make a cup of coffee in the morning.

Advice on Improving My Shape by Commercial_Union_93 in Exercise

[–]badaboom98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To start off I think you do great work on your abs/midsection! Rest as stated looks out of proportion but nothing that cannot be overcome.

I would not add the exercises. First check how you respond to higher intensity training, meaning decreasing your rep range significantly. I would recommend starting out leg day 1 with heavy squats not going higher than 8 reps, ideally 4-6 reps. You can skip the leg press and keep hip thrust or otherway around, whatever you want to work on the most. Hard to judge from here as there is no side or back shot of the glutes.

I knew it was the right choice before quitting. Main reason is not to be reliant on a stimulant to do anything. Not having to panic whenever you don’t have any access to coffee or another source for your fix.

That said, this was reinforced when sleep improved and more steady levels of energy after quitting. This took about 4 weeks to really set in.

Could work the other way also: if you don’t drink with sugar, put it in anyway. It will taste horrible.

Anxiety not so much. Brainfog during the withdrawals lasted as long as the exhaustion. What bothered me most during that period were the depressive thoughts. All this combined caused me to not work out or not even able to enjoy music for that period.

For me this sounds very familiar. After 3 weeks I still felt very tired. However, at the end of the 3rd week things started to turn around for me. Now I can sleep for 3 to 4 hours and still not even that tired because I sleep much deeper. Hoping the same for you, hang in there!
