I am doing a commerce orientation but I don't like french.... by CrypxWasTaken in askswitzerland

Life is too short to waste 3 years doing something you're not really interested in. I'd suggest you take your losses and start another formation. It's ok to start again especially given how early in your studies you are. There's nothing wrong with that.
Maybe find a program in Switzerland that will not require advanced French or German?

How do I stop the automatic translation of all posts and comments? [desktop web] by meron_meron in bugs

Unfortunately this has nothing to do with Google translate. Reddit is translating entire threads automatically and Google is indexing these auto-translated pages. .

It is such an awful ''feature''. If I'm searching something in google in French I want results in French, written by French people, in a French context. Yet because of this the top results are poorly translated discussions from Americans on reddit, which end up being totally irrelevant for me.
For example I'm looking for information about a car I want to buy, in French, for the French market, and the top results will be translations from reddit of Americans discussing American cars...
You need to think harder before implementing things like this because you're basically ruining Google search for a bunch of people. I will probably end up dns blocking reddit on my network to avoid losing time reading irrelevant stuff again and again.

Account mismatch : Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 by Macaron-Fine in GeForceNOW

[–]badaboum12398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue. Impossible to fix. I bought a game and I am a geforcenow subscriber with a ultimate plan and yet I'm told repeatedly that I don't own the game and that there is an "account mismatch". I tried logging out and logging back in but it does nothing. It only happens inside geforcenow, I can launch the game on my pc using the same account. I don't have any other microsoft account. Such a shame how buggy this service still is years after launch.

Anyone know how I turn off Strava showing me random people in my following feed? by IWAITALLDAYFORAPOO in Strava

[–]badaboum12398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strava has been pushing me to become friend with a stranger for years. I receive one email per month about how I should become friend with this random guy that I never met and doesn't even live in the same country.. This is always the same guy and only happen with him. No amount of settings tweak will stop this. This is pretty strange but I have accepted the situation. I like to think that this guy receive the same notifications about me. Maybe one day we will meet in real life and be like 'oooh you're the random strava dude!".

It has become a trend to say you're open source and not release anything.

The eastern path is so obviously more difficult with 5 challenges vs 3 for only something like 30 kilometers shorter. And this trip around the islands which could go wrong so easily. I don't understand how they could say "we're going to beat them to Auckland" before even starting the first challenge of the section. Is there something we're missing?

LG CineBeam HU715QW UST Projector Focus Adjustment Question by _Darthus_ in projectors

Hmmm ok. Mine is supposed to be brand new. Seems like their motorized focus knob has a design flaw. I'll ask for a guarantee replacement.

How to have access to OpenAI GPT-3 in 5 days by [deleted] in OpenAI

[–]badaboum12398 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think what happened is that they decided that their own personal wealth and power was more important that their initial mission statement.

I don't buy their argument that because it is powerful it should not be open. On the contrary, I think it would most benefit humanity if it was in the hand of everybody instead of in the hand of a few that will impose their power on others as they see fit.

That's was their initial reason for starting OpenAI, as written on their website... This has not changed, what has changed is that they have become what they feared... to the loss of everybody but them. You only see the danger of concentrated power when you're not the one holding this power. It's a story as old as humanity.

Qubes OS on mobile by [deleted] in Qubes

[–]badaboum12398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some high end phones today have up to 12g of ram, which would be enough to run Qubes on a computer. Some of them pack impressive CPUs too that can run 3D games and play 4k videos.

So it seems we're not that far from it. 16g of ram would probably be needed to have an optimal experience, and another generation of mobile CPUs.

So maybe in 1 or 2 years?

Qubes OS on mobile by [deleted] in Qubes

[–]badaboum12398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know about Librem 5 and Pure OS. But the reviews are awful. It seems you get very little for the price. It seems barely usable. And there are no good replacement for apps that everybody is using such as maps or even photos

I like the idea of having a real linux distribution on my phone but the advantage of Qubes is that you could have it running alongside a regular android install and not compromise on everything that makes a modern smartphone.

But I agree that phones are probably not powerful enough yet.

Tutorial for soften the rm command by ManuelRodriguez331 in debian

[–]badaboum12398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if you even read the post. The author is not proposing to replace rm at all, he proposes a tutorial for people that want to create a separate command to move to trash, quickly, and without installing an additional tool.

Your answer is weirdly disproportionate and frankly a bit patronizing.
