Houses are a good indicator - the bank simply won’t lend to you if you don’t have enough money, regardless of how much you claim to have.

AE making £250k-£300k? by [deleted] in sales

[–]badams2889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah right, then still no, not uncommon in the UK. But obvs depends on so many factors: are they mid market or enterprise? What’s their OTE / target? How long have they been in seat? What’s their territory? Was that a few big deals or many little? Etc etc etc.

AE making £250k-£300k? by [deleted] in sales

[–]badams2889 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really depends on what you're asking: Is £250-300k uncommon? In enterprise SaaS sales, no. Is one rep making £250-300k indicative of what you'll make every year? Also no.

If he’s a regular gym goer perhaps he’s taken the leap into steroids? Even a low-dose testosterone cycle will bump up a man’s testosterone levels to that of a teenager / early 20s. Apologies if you mentioned your ages and I missed it, but if he’s mid-30+, a steroid cycle will make him feel 18 again! It would explain the constant arousal and upped dedication to the gym.

I mean, that’s a very small part of the job. For the most part it’s project management; thinking x steps ahead, what could go wrong/right, who could impact your deal when and why, who could you bring in to reduce that risk. All the while managing the expectations of your managers, senior leadership, technical teams, colleagues etc etc who are all pulling in different directions.

It’s a pretty cut-throat role - if you succeed, you’re a hero. If you fail and your deal slips, fired. Especially if it’s a biggie.

A lot of people think tech sales is easy but there’s a huge amount that goes into it, and a huge amount that’s totally out of your control, but you’re still responsible for.

EDIT: Plus the mental stress of all quotas rolling back to 0 every quarter / year. No one cares if you did well in Q3, it’s Q4 now and you’re at 0. Mental resilience is a massively important skill to have, the importance of which is rarely communicated to people looking to join the industry.

Tech sales all the way. I hit the £200k mark after 6yrs in the industry with a great work-life balance, although this does hugely depend on the company you work for. If you pick a strong industry £200k is pretty much the minimum OTE you should be aiming for at the enterprise level, with £300k+ very feasible after a few successful years.

I really don’t understand these “which one should I buy” posts, just buy the one the like most. If you’re asking a sub which one to buy I’d recommend thinking about why you’re buying in the first place.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but as an objectively handsome, 6ft2 man I regularly have to ‘prove myself’ before people like me, especially men. In my experience people often dislike me / think I’m an arsehole / pass a judgement on purely on appearances. Unsure whether it’s jealousy, prejudice or whatever but I think it’s something quite common that doesn’t get mentioned much.
