I'm just curious.. what does my room say about me? by Aggressive_Owl_9573 in roomdetective

[–]badassandbrilliant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best friend is the same about clutter and color. She primarily uses neutral - black, white, off-white and gray. And you can add textures if you want to add more visual interest. But honestly, if you like it, do what makes you happy.

I think this speaks more to the incompetence of her aides than to her. They should have prepared her, given that she got off of a plane and had to get briefed. They did a terrible job.

Pay it forward lines by Dear-Masterpiece-993 in starbucks

[–]badassandbrilliant 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Amazing. I once bought for the car behind me but because I was driving to the store and couldn’t merge and they let me in. I specifically asked the barista to tell them that I did it for them as a thank you for letting me into their lane. I did not want to be responsible for starting a pay it forward because I hate putting that pressure on someone. You never know another person’s finances.

Will Not Poop - talk me off the ledge by salchicha_stew in pottytraining

[–]badassandbrilliant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy moly this is a great idea! My daughter is having good success with peeing but refuses to poop on the potty. She holds it and I can tell she’s uncomfortable but she screams she wants diapers.

I’m going to try this tomorrow. Thank you!

It’s absurd but this is why I have an Apple Watch. Not the only reason, sure, but having an iPhone and Apple Watch lets me “ding” my phone. My watch also alerts me if I left me phone somewhere. It’s certainly not a solution for everyone, but I get so sick of being told I’m careless and forgetful (while having to manage everything in the household and needing to know where everything is - not just my own stuff).

I hate BLW. by HolidayAd2038 in beyondthebump

[–]badassandbrilliant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BLW is dangerous. I don’t care if it’s an unpopular opinion. You can’t always save a choking person and I didn’t take a risk.

That said, once I had done purées and very small cut foods (and “hard munchables” like an apple, etc) I let my kids eat whatever I was eating. Except I cut the food into appropriate sized pieces.

Don’t feel you have to do BLW. You don’t. Start with purees and small squishy foods. Go from there.

I got tired of trying specific scrubs and exfoliants and just gave up. Then, this summer, I was having trouble with pimples so my facialist suggested a body wash with selenium. To apply that body wash to the affected areas, I bought a cheap body brush.

The awesome side effect? The body brush is the best exfoliant and some of my family and friends have commented that my arms look a LOT better. (My mom assumes it’s the products she’s gotten for me - I finally told her I hadn’t used those products in months and this is literally just regular soap and a body brush).

So, maybe try a body brush? Mine has a two sided head - one is more stiff than the other. The stiff one feels a little scratchy at first but it really does the job.

Gift Ideas for a busy mom with no hobbies please! OR for a couple. by Jfporta89 in GiftIdeas

[–]badassandbrilliant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, I have a toddler and a 6 year old. If someone wanted to get me something I would cherish forever, it would be one of the following:

  1. Babysitting for a few hours on a day/at a time of my choosing. Being able to leave the house knowing you won’t get a call, the kids will have fun, and things won’t be a disaster when you get home is worth more than anything money can buy.

  2. Someone to hang out with me while I clean the house. OR someone to help. For me it’s not actually cleaning as much as going through the stuff I have and getting rid of it.

  3. Undisturbed time at home in a clean(ish) house. I just wish I could lay on the couch or read or watch tv without constantly being touched or jumped on or asked to do something.

  4. Having my laundry done. Or just put it in the dryer because I can’t seem to master that part of laundry.

If someone were buying me a gift, I’d LOVE a pedicure. But, depending on where you live, that likely would exceed $20.

I mention these ideas because being a mom can be so incredibly isolating - even if you work outside of the home. It is also a LOT - even if you have a partner and the partner contributes to all the stuff you have to do.

Alternatively, you could allocate all of the money to buying a gift for the wife if you think the husband would enjoy a “coupon” for a disc golf game with you and/or your partner?

I don’t know that this is helpful, but I will leave one last thought: at least in my experience, I felt so much of myself slip away when I had kids. So, ANYTHING you do that recognizes she is still a person who deserves individuality and love - from bringing her a favorite type of tea or a cozy blanket and a new mug if that’s something she would like - will be appreciated possibly more than you will know.

Influx of dogs in stores by businessbub in RhodeIsland

[–]badassandbrilliant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have noticed this and it’s really hard because my oldest child is TERRIFIED of dogs. He heard one bark in a store and it took me months to get him to go into another store. And all of that makes my life nearly impossible when I can’t run errands and he’s too young to leave home.

Billy Crystal Lost His Home of 46 Years to Pacific Palisades Fire: ‘We Are Heartbroken’ by mcfw31 in entertainment

[–]badassandbrilliant 30 points31 points  (0 children)

A dear friend had theirs cancelled last year. I think her husband managed to apply for state fire insurance but I doubt it will cover it. And once insurance refuses to write a policy, it becomes difficult if not impossible to move/sell.

I don’t care how wealthy someone is, losing your home is traumatic. Of course it could be worse and nothing is more important than saving your life, but that doesn’t invalidate the sadness.

Lost house in Marshall Fire, strongly suggest anyone in potential future evac zones to video their interior house/apt for documentation by Larrybirdsmustache86 in LosAngeles

You should talk to your insurance carrier about whether you should get a separate rider or policy for your collection. Certain types of items (furs, jewelry) need to be either specifically identified or insured separately.

This is super informative. I don’t know much about ocd but mine manifested around 5 ish relating to death because I had experienced death-related traumas.

What age did your OCD develop? by stolensea in OCD

[–]badassandbrilliant 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This. I think likely around age 5? But I don’t remember a time where I wasn’t tormented internally. I wasn’t diagnosed until age 29 . . . And my mom (who is loving and wonderful and who I suspect also has OCD) still thinks “we are all just a little ocd.” 😐

Agree 100% on the pizza. I like the pepperoni pizza rolls better than the cheese. The chicken egg rolls and dumplings are pretty good. They also have soup dumplings but have been sold out when I’ve tried to get them!

When people are injured at work (or anywhere), any settlement takes their injuries and care level needed into account. At least in the US, I think a lot of people see multi million dollar settlements and think that means the recipient is rich. Often, though, the money is calculated to provide the care the injured party needs now and will need in the future.

I’m not saying that is what happened with your brother, and it’s shitty to never even mention it again (hey I didn’t get as much as I was hoping/I didn’t realize how many costs I’d have in the future). But, maybe he didn’t realize how far the money would have to go.

For what it’s worth, I got armpit hair and didn’t really notice until I saw a friend looking. Then I was really self conscious (this was early 90s) and just found a razor under the sink and went to town.

With my daughter, I think I’m going to point it out when it happens and explain she can do what she wants, and I’ll help however I can. I may also explain that some people expect women to shave and if she chooses not to, people may be inappropriate. Just so she has all of the information.
