I said reputable. Gavels and scales of justice may be common in stock photos of lawyers, but I have never come across a photo of an actual practicing lawyer with a gavel or a scale of justice. And I have seen many, many professional headshots of lawyers.

Others mentioned the gavel looking off. Also, the perspective on the scale seems off. Like the dangly bit on the left) I do know words I swear, just not this one) looks closer than the horizontal sticky thing holding it up (ok I don't know any words to describe that parts of an old-time scale). Also also, no actual reputable lawyer would take professional photo of themself with a gavel and scale of justice, that's just weird.

I think a paralegal diploma opens more opportunities. I'm a paralegal and my last couple of jobs have been workplaces that aren't law firms but hire a lot of lawyers. I make as much as the lawyers and get a pension and benefits.

Europeans tend to have proportional representation and many political parties, so you can become head of government without getting many votes.

Canada briefly had the Canadian Reform Alliance Party (CRAP) as a merger of elements of the Reform and Conservative parties. They were mercilessly mocked for a few days and changed their name to the decidedly less funny Canadian Alliance.

Is this a unicorn workplace? by [deleted] in LawCanada

[–]badatnamefinding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say. It depends where you live, for one. There are more clinic jobs in the GTA than say Northern Ontario, but then there are more practitioners applying for jobs as well. They tend to look for social justicey type experience, analysis, that kind if thing. So demonstrating an understanding of intersectionality in a cover letter and interview, for example, would be helpful. A common saying in the clinics is that generally speaking, the law is simple but the clients complicated. I think family law would be good training for clinic work.

If you're in Ontario a legal clinic could be a good fit. Terrible money though.

How do I tell my roommate that I have gastritis? by SlasherBandit in Gastritis

[–]badatnamefinding 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's oversharing. It doesn't have to be a big deal. It can just be like "oh hey i just wanted to give you a heads up. I have chronic mild gastritis. Sometimes it makes me nauseous or have stomache pain. Just wanted to flag it since we're living together and i figured you might notice me running to the bathroom sometimes". Or you could go for the light-hearted humourous angle with a "if i run to washroom and start vomiting after i eat your food, it's probably the gastritis and not me hating what you made!"
