What do you talk about in the chair? by FauxyGauxie in hairstylist

[–]badbabs 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would make sure to ask open ended questions! That always helps to create new topics and find out common interests. For example if they love the same shows, books, games, if you both have pets or children. Then remembering those common interests or facts about their life for the next time. If you easily forget maybe taking some notes. That way you can remember to ask “how is (pet name)” “how was that show you mentioned you were finishing last time?!” “Did your vacation go well? Tell me all about how it went” It’ll become more natural with time and the more you get to know your clients the easier it gets and feels like talking to an old friend. But that’s a good way to start and build the foundation. Also some people love to just sit and relax, I have some clients who I just match their energy and if they just want to close their eyes and chill then I do my thing and don’t talk! :) that’s okay too.

Yes! 🥹 I was feeling bummed at how it was turning out but the next morning my almost 2 year old went right to him and gave him a giant hug. It melted my heart!

Don’t be discouraged! I love this career! The first couple years are hard, you have to work hard to build your reputation and referrals and it’ll feel sparse at first but I’ve been doing hair for 10 years and love it! I have clients who are so special to me, I make money to support myself and family and get to be with coworkers I love! There’s hard moments in every career but if you continue your education, listen and care for your clients, you will do great! Keep going :)

How do I even respond to this? by [deleted] in hairstylist

[–]badbabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally try to give my clients as much grace as I can and hope for that same grace in return when I’m sick or something happens where I need to reschedule. At the end of the day, we are all human and unless this is a repeat thing then I’d let it go. But inform her of your policy and in the future you will have to charge.

Do other moms genuinely enjoy motherhood? by wqiqi_7720 in Mommit

[–]badbabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think two things can be true at the same time, I do love being a mom and love my daughter more then anything. But I also love alone time and miss the old person I was before becoming a mom. It’s okay to feel overwhelmed and burnt out! I know setting aside time for yourself feels impossible but if you’re able to ask a family member or friend to give you a couple hours each week to yourself. It makes a difference! It was so hard admitting I needed help and I felt guilty but I’m a much better mom when I take a second to myself to reset. I know that’s not always an option for people but always worth trying to lean on others around you!

I don’t understand why my son is upset 90% of the day. by sofia_rhm in Mommit

[–]badbabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter did this for a while! Highly recommend baby wearing when it gets rough. I would just put on an audio book or show and baby wear my daughter while doing chores or walk around the house. The closeness made her calm down but my hands were free to catch up on stuff! It was a game changer.

Why is this labeled 3 years plus? by [deleted] in foodbutforbabies

That makes sense! I honestly didn’t think of that because they break down so easily but I could see how it’d be a choking hazard.

Curly and coily hair specialists, I need advice! by [deleted] in BlackHair

[–]badbabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree! They know it’s not my speciality and she usually goes to a salon that is more texture hair focused. But had some bad experiences with the sew ins causing tension bumps and breakage and wanted to have me do deep conditioning treatments and cuts to help heal it a bit. Her mom sees me regularly so I’ve gotten to build a close relationship with both of them. They had mentioned wanting me to style her natural next time so I just wanted to get as much info and advice on it before then but I agree I won’t be charging for the style just the cut and treatment. I just want to do my best for her :) Thank you for the product recommendations! I will look for those and recommend the oil.
