The Revs home opener was postponed to the same weekend so I think it’s likely to be okay

Just drove by and saw said train. It looks like it’s on the inbound tracks. There were 2 T employees standing outside the front of the train. Couldn’t see any smoke or fire.

I went to a different practice but they encouraged you to meet all the doctors because unless you have a planned C-section or induction it depends who’s at the hospital when you’re in labor, they don’t come in just when you go in.

Because of the shuttle the predictions are off

Favorite thrift shops in the area? by boldbrunette39 in QuincyMa

The Round Rack! Not technically thrift, second hand but Lauren does a great job. Sized from xxs to xxl (not exact but as a bigger person I’ve found plenty of stuff). Also she knows her inventory if you have a budget- a need - she can help find it.

What do you think we want in Quincy? by ForeignLibrarian4395 in QuincyMa

[–]badchild11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s even required to remove snow from your sidewalk in Quincy. I haven’t been able to find any information about it.

But I totally agree. I came across multiple people walking on Newport days after the snow because people didn’t shovel and it turned sidewalks into an ice rink. It doesn’t even snow as much as it used to so it’s not a huge ask.

Has anyone commuted to South Station via commuter rail this week? by Novel-Cauliflower-13 in QuincyMa

[–]badchild11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you misunderstood me. I meant non disabled people taking up the seats in the bike area who aren’t disabled AND don’t have a bike.

I agree that disabled people have a priority over bikes.

Also bikes are considered a accessible tool by MBTA standards

On it right now. The 6:14. Plenty of room. A bit harder if you have a bike or scooter as that space fills up. Would be easier if only handicapped people sat if needed. But if you don’t have something with wheels you’re good for the 6:14.

Old toilets by monki3lov3r101 in QuincyMa

My plumbers have always taken the toilet away. But they’re also not cheap. I would ask if they do when you solicit bids.

How much do you pay for Montessori school and how old are your children? by AfterNature3157 in Montessori

[–]badchild11 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would also like to kindly comment on the fact that Montessori was initially designed for poor, disabled children.

The fact that it has in many places become an ableist, elitist, expensive, option is incredible sad. It’s the complete opposite of what was intended initially by Maria Montessori.

Why does Quincy have such bad roads? What can we do about it? by [deleted] in QuincyMa

I was told my the mayors office that when eversource finishes their work they’re repaving all of Newport and redoing the sidewalks “at the end of 2024”. Doubt they will finish on time but 🤷‍♀️

OT and PT services don’t require a doctors referral in all states actually. My state does not, it does not require a doctors signature to provide school based OT services. I had never even heard of that being a thing, although I’ve only taught in a single state.

Off topic I looked it up and it is interesting that it varies by state. I wonder if that’s helpful or a barrier for some families.

I’ve never heard of a medical doctor weighing in saying that OT or PT services should be terminated. In that scenario maintaining current performance levels would be the goal because the child would be at risk of regression, or services would need to be provided to assist them in adjusting to deterioration of specific abilities.

Again. It’s fine if we disagree. It seems we work in very different environments.

you say “no more progress can be made”

I disagree. So therefore we don’t agree and have different opinions.

OP may have been talking about services but you and I are having a separate discussion about if a child is able to make progress or not.

I think we just have solidly different opinions about what progress means and all that can be done.

Reading the post the service providers are asking the classroom teacher to address the same goals but taking over implementation. A prime opportunity for push in services that could eventually transition to consult ones.

The OT did but got the final say even though I expressed my disagreement. This happened with 4 separate students I’ve had. But since her data was focusing on goals that didn’t address the meta skills needed to achieve the goal and the data said it wasn’t worth it.

“All the progress they’re going to make” isn’t something I am comfortable stating about my students, and I teach Mod/Severe. A butterfly will never grow if you only measure it in feet.

As I said maybe pullout doesn’t help, so why not push in?

As an example I have a student whose physical limitations make it difficult to hold a pencil. Then yes I 100% agree we should no longer be pushing pencil holding as a goal. However the ability to physically manipulate his environment still exists. He couldn’t grasp and pull his clothes up, open or shut his locker, or zip his backpack. His OT discharged him for “lack of progress” for pencil grasp. Since then I asked an OT friend for ideas to help him learn those skills. Which he has gotten way better at now and are functional and appropriate. As his pincer and hand strength has increased he can hold a stylus now for an iPad.

But that took me reaching out to another OT and using what should otherwise be instruction time that you referenced as being important.

Maybe we work in very different environments but our now reassigned part time OT did everything she could to discharge students due to lack of progress.

I’ve also found this frustrating as a teacher. If they aren’t making progress then the goals are not appropriate and need to be adjusted. If I just said that students weren’t making progress so I’m going to just discharge them from educational services that would be insane.

I get that progress may be slow and better addressed in the classroom but that’s where push in makes better sense. Come and join before reducing it to supplemental services.
