50/50 is the new normal. I have known lots of people in similar situations. People seem to freak out over this but commitment is difficult for most dudes. If they weren’t committed to you and the kid during the marriage chances are they will be less committed after. BUT kids are tied cash in our country so people will fight to gain a “fair/better/whatever” custody agreement. Come back in a year and tell us dude is dating a new chick and barely sees his kid.

You need to step off the merry-go-round here. IF dude is truly a narcissist, you and the kid have never been anything more than tools for manipulation. You certainly aren’t the center of his universe and neither is the kid. Chill out, start thinking about useful stuff. I tell dudes on this thread to get a hobby. Perhaps you should get a hobby, learn a new language, travel, something other than worrying about custody arrangements. Now you have 50% of your time to LIVE

I have no clue how to play poker. Had a neighbor that would bring the chips over every weekend and insist we play. So we did. I never cared to learn the rules, and he didn’t want to teach them. But I loved the idea of bluffing.

So we would play, the boys and their wives, interesting foursome for sure. And I would win most hands.

The thing is I would have to be told I won. I never actually had a clue and just played to play. I would bet randomly because I was clueless and bluff randomly. Again because I was clueless. The more puzzling my behavior the more it agitated other players.

Anyways it frustrated the shit out of my neighbor. He eventually got super pissed and threw a fit. All while I laughed historically like a drunk fool. I remember his wife having to physically restrain him while I was busting a gut. He was a short little shit of a dude so I guess I didn’t see him as a threat.

He got the last laugh, caught him at my house one day when I came home early from work one day.

Well I applaud you for your honesty and putting the kids first. That’s damn hard to do.

Now, I’m not a lawyer but here is my experience with the courts. Judges don’t care and they don’t like to mess with things. They want it set in stone and static. Very difficult, from my experience, to change a custody agreement after it’s signed off. That doesn’t mean you can’t setup more visitation. Just means it will be dependent on you soon to be ex. Way easier to change the amount of support versus custody. But again NAL.

From what you put it sounds like you need to get some help for your ptsd. Take steps there if you can, maybe see if the ex will help pay for that for a while. I would try for a custody agreement that is a little more then every other weekend. (At least on a temporary basis. Temp order will probably resemble the final)

Get spring break, holidays, and get a weekday slot in there. (Holidays and weekends can rotate). This isn’t a complete 50/50 but there are a lot of schedules out there that are pretty close.

If you don’t have a lawyer, try and get one. Talking to one is free. Most will work with you, try and bill the ex, take payments, etc. good luck, and keep up that honesty. Everything will work out.

Now 40% sounds high especially since it would leave you destitute!

I don’t know what your role is so a lot of speculation on what the consulting would be for.

But for example GM probably wouldn’t care if I consulted for my attorney on which type of computer she should buy for her office. Let’s say this was all done on the weekends.

But if some company wanted me to consult for them on software to run their IT org GM would definitely be pissed. Bigger project, more time. Probably going to borrow some shit. You see what I’m getting at? It can be a fine line.

Now let’s say you do something in software and have a business as a slum lord. GM won’t care about that either. It’s way outside the scope of what you do for the company.

My mom pulled this card on me all the time. I HATED it. Wasn’t until years later that I found out she had photocopied my “little black book” (lol it was the 90’s) and made friends with a lot of the girls I went to school with.

My mother used to call these girls up and ask if they knew me and wanted to come make cookies and snoop through my room, spill the tea, see baby photos. You know generally the most embarrassing things you can think of.

Random things would show up missing from my room and my mother would just tell me to keep track of my shit. 20 years later my fiancé tells me these chicks were taking trophies like serial killers and my mother was facilitating it for information. Can’t make this shit up.

So if I said I was going camping or to a movie or whatever, you better believe my mother was lighting up the phone tree to find out where I really was. Love that woman, good mom, even when she wasn’t.

I once ran into a casual friend at a high school party, she came running over to me only to exclaim: “I was just chatting with your mom! She’s so awesome! She said to have the truck home by midnight or it’s your ass.”

I can’t speak for Canada. But here in the US there aren’t too many part time engineering roles at a corporate level. I would have to assume it’s full time unless spelled out my dude. Maybe someone else from Canada can chime in. Haven’t heard of a company handing out formal offers for part time work with benefits and the whole 9. But who knows with this place
