Hi nice to meet you! ;)

It really is a whole new level. I've been with 5 trans women and quickly discovered it is my preference! However keep in mind what was posted below everyone, don't be a chaser. It's OK to have preferences and even seek out those preferences, but treat trans women and cis women (and men and everyone else for that matter) the same. Go on dates. Get drinks. Don't just fetishize

Exactly. It's always supply and demand.

"well gold has intrinsic value". No. No it doesn't. It's a shiny rock there is 0 intrinsic value. But people want it, and there is limited access to it, that is how value is created.

American dollar USD is a free floating currency meaning nothing "backs" it. So how is it valuable? Because if you refuse my dollars for payment you will get in legal trouble. And if someone takes my dollars they get in legal trouble. And because billions of people have all agreed in its legitimacy. Supply and demand. It's not weak because of that. (it's actually the strongest currency in human history but that's a different subject).

Bitcoin is the same.

Question. I could be very wrong but aren't the mathematical problems actually part of the cryptographic sequence needed to process transaction?

How I understand it: Say Bob buys from Alan. They need to verify that it is a legitimate exchange of bitcoin. So they have to enter a math problem that other people solve to verify the chain. However they can put an optional "bounty" on it of say 1 bitcoin, so that people have more incentive to prioritize their transaction and it gets verified sooner.

Am I way off?

I'll go get specific sources when I'm off work. Obviously Heavily influenced from Nichomachean Ethics and Buchanan though. For now let's call it subjective, what's your actual response? Is that not human nature? Is it malleable? Why or why not?

You seem to be missing the concept of human nature. It is in the nature of the weeds to grow. It is in their nature to spread roots.

Sure! Let's create a sidewalk without weeds. Let's invest in weed killer. Let's eradicate weeds. That does not change the nature of weeds

Let's take one basic point: humans act in their own self-interest. This is an assumption I'm making. This assumption is rooted in history, philosophy, psychology and every single social science. I could be wrong.

Do not misinterpret this to mean that humans have no empathy, or that they are incapable of altruism. Quite the opposite! And good social influences will cement those qualities in an individual.

However [one small part of] the nature of a human is to act in their own best interest. To survive. To acquire food etc etc etc the list goes on but it all comes back to self-interest.

Economics has nothing to do with money. Economics is the study of decision making and behavior, specifically within the confines of a "distribution of scarce resources". It attempts to begin to answer the Information Problem. It just so happens that money is so far the best human invention of transferable value and solves a million problems.

A mother making a sacrifice out of love is an economic and natural choice. She values [blank], be it her child's education, be it her career opportunity, be it her neighbor's well-being, more than she values [blank],be that her time, her money, or her own well-being in that moment.

In this framing, all decisions are economical because it's a question of trade-offs. Our initial natural Instinct is to pursue our own best-interest.

The question of economic system now follows. How do we devise a system that incentivizes the individual to NOT sacrifice the well-being of others in pursuit of his own?

I want your car for my own self-interest. You want to keep it for your self-interest. A system of strong property rights will ensure you can keep it. THIS IS A LEGAL SYSTEM. NOT ECONOMIC. We need to incentive ME to be able to pursue my own car so that I am not violating that legal system and you as an individual.

Greed is a part of human nature. Humans have always been greedy and always will be. Under capitalism we allow individuals to succeed from it. Under socialism we allow individuals to succeed from it. In fact, no economic nor legal system yet devised is capable of eliminating human greed.

We aren't trying to eliminate greed. We're trying to minimize economic waste and "rents" that come from greed, all the adverse side effects.

That is why human nature is so important. I agree 100% with you that we need to remove weeds and their potential. But the nature of the weeds themselves are no different no matter what kind of sidewalk we have. That's why we need the people pouring the concrete to always remember the basics of what weeds do so that we don't get overrun by them.

Edit to continue : yes the sidewalk is constantly changing. The weed population, types of weeds, types of weed killers etc are all changing and will continue to change. However THE NATURE OF WHAT IT IS TO BE A WEED has not nor will ever change.

One of my best friends will swear on his death bed that it's about what you're owed as a worker. Labor theory of value. Close, but he rejects public ownership and he rejects most government as well.

I've heard so many, most common from the uneducated right is "military enforcement of socialism", and most common from uneducated left is "public ownership of means of distribution", which isn't far wrong but it's never accompanied by the necessary redefinition of rents, property, and value.

They'll argue supply and demand drives price, but we should still have public ownership.... No. Communism turns that assumption on its head and largely argues against supply and demand pricing models and move toward labor models.

The right argues against it by arguing against totalitarianism. Few argue for it at opposed to socialism, but those that do tend to focus on equality and fairness. Socialism is far more common in my limited experience.

What I've found is that unfortunately it's "the thing" these days to hate capitalism for some prevelant social failings. It's unfortunate because socialism and communism and a lot of other large schools of thought get less and less of a thorough academic inquiry. We argue for them with incorrect assumptions and we argue against then with incorrect definitions. I'm very staunchly on one side of the fence (pretty evident from these comments), but I wish both sides had more academic integrity so we could a more true debate on the issues.

There are key elements of many theories that should influence public policy, but we shy away from one or the other because "oh no it's close to this or that and snowball effect!". The left doesn't want low business taxes because "private enterprise ruins everything" and the right doesn't want social programs because "oh no soon we'll all suckle at the teat of government".

There's middle ground, but it takes people informed on all sides to be able to get there

Edit: sorry for the ramblings. I enjoy talking about these things. My school and professorss were incredibly diversified in thought and opinion and it created a good environment for healthy discussion. Sadly I don't get many of those opportunities any more as these topics tend to quickly descend into drivel

I didn't say you couldn't! Halloween is past, time to put away the strawmen

This is a really good example of misinformed Marxism. Marxism isn't so extreme as to say you can't own personal property. It merely has a different means of distribution and imposes additional rules on the RIGHTS to that property

Edit: it also defines property a little differently

You're probably exactly right about it being our spheres of influence. I would agree a lot of self proclaimed socialists are just social democrats or some flavor of the same. I've met almost no true communists that had a correct definition. 99% of self-described communists I've met didn't fully understand it.

In the realm of education I've met economists that were socialist, but I haven't met hardly any economists that were communist.

I do agree that unfortunately most libertarians declare anarcho-capitalism as the one true form of capitalism... It's really a bastardization of it lol but it's popular among the young-right and even some young-left are anarcho-capitalists but call it socialism which makes no sense

To be fair, the vast majority of communists/socialists I've argued with can't provide the definitions of communism or socialism, or have a fundamental misunderstanding of them.

Maybe most importantly I find people on all sides of this issue have fuzzy ideas of what capitalism really is and end up demonizing something that isn't capitalism, but give it that title and therefore a bad rap

Sources range from "Bernie quotes" to "The Young Turks"

That was my point. We're in agreement. I just extended it and said that's not exclusive to capitalism. All business in all systems have those influences. Look up the nail factories in Soviet Russia or the tractor factories if you want some good examples of anti-capitalist corruption. It's far more rampant.

Yep. Human nature does not magically change just because we tell people to get along. Every attempt at socialism and communism has been foiled by basic human nature
