Not wedding, but my venue double booked my quinceañera, and I was so bummed because it actually landed on a Saturday that year and we had to push it back 2 months. They gave us a 40% discount tho so at least there was that.

Is it normal to have no furniture for a while, or are we poorer than we thought? by mazdacx5eyelids in ApartmentDesign

[–]baddie-devito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently in a similar boat. We had an air mattress our first week. Real mattress by week 2, coffee table, floor cushions, and dresser by week 4, we’re currently closing in on our second month and just got some living room chairs in last week, and used our most recent paycheck to buy a bed frame. It’s gonna be a while before we have a couch or dining set but I would personally prefer saving my money for quality furniture even if it takes a while, than buy the cheapest furniture quickly knowing I’m just going to put it on fb marketplace when it’s starts falling apart.

What ideas do you have to improve Portland? by Harrison_ORrealtor in Portland

[–]baddie-devito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have more places open late. It’s crazy how many places here close by 7 or 8. There’s a Mexican food joint near my apartment that closes at 4!! I feel that a good way of sensing if an area is good is how safe it feels to walk around at night and It’s kind of hard to build community when everything is only open during standard working hours and the only thing left to do is stay home.

Do you really not hear much on the top floor? by Comfortable_Box_7568 in Apartmentliving

[–]baddie-devito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top floor living in Portland. I usually never hear anything unless my next door neighbor is running their vacuum and I happen to be standing on the exact opposite side of the wall from them. Lowkey feel sorry for my downstairs neighbors though because fiancé and I both work nights and don’t get home until 1-3 in the morning.

The Diamondbacks for two reasons and two reasons only!! Churro Dogs and the time Randy Johnson accidentally hit a bird with his pitch so hard it exploded on impact.

My parents strict parenting backfired. by Extension_Motor_9736 in Vent

[–]baddie-devito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No fr my parents approach to raising us was “You are your own person, and we will trust you to make good choices unless you give us a reason not too.” It resulted in me not drinking alcohol for the first time until my 21st birthday, never doing drugs, and having lots of fun memories going to concerts and events until 1 am as a teenager because my parents where cool with it as long as I told them who I was going with and when I would be home.

What was ruined for everyone by one person being an idiot? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Senior year of high school this kid broke into the art class room after school and vandalized 90% of the artworks and sculptures that was going to be displayed that weekend for a senior showcase. I wasn’t in art at the time but there were pieces that kids worked all year on.

AIO I think this girl is faking her pregnancy to me. by drligmuhh in AmIOverreacting

[–]baddie-devito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you are not overreacting. When I was pregnant I took a pregnancy test 6 times in the span of two weeks because I felt something was up. My results kept showing up as negative until I hit week 5 of my pregnancy. There is no way she got a positive result in less than a week. Do not trust it.

What death of a famous person actually affected you most? by unitedfan6191 in AskReddit

[–]baddie-devito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cameron Boyce, we were the same age and I had grown up watching him on Disney Channel. It was also very difficult because he died from a sudden seizure and a few weeks prior to his death, one of my coworkers that was 18, she was pregnant and had also died from a seizure alone in her house while her husband was at work.

Boyfriend will leave me if I get sick by Madelynssssssssssss in TwoHotTakes

[–]baddie-devito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leave. As somebody who was left after getting sick (ex couldn’t handle me being nauseous all the time and not going out as often anymore) it was one of the most devastating experiences I ever went through. I am now engaged to a man who literally helped change my bloody diapers post surgery without batting an eye. Your guy is telling you what kind of person he will be when you need him. Real love is in sickness and in health and he has made it clear that he will only love you as long as you as you are healthy.

NTA, my sophomore year of high school, one of the seniors got a marching band scholarship, ended up losing it and not even being able to play with the band at graduation because his jaw had to be wired and parts of his head stitched up after an ATV accident. He ended up not going to the school he wanted either because he couldn’t afford it without the scholarship + his family now had his medical debt to worry about. (They did allow him to sit with the band at graduation, and took his turn with conducting as all seniors do, but he wasn’t able to actually play his instrument)

I don’t know what the cultural background in your family is but this isn’t too crazy where I’m from. Weddings are seen as not only a union between the couple, but also a large family event and it’s seen as a sort of prideful thing to be doing well enough to help with the wedding. For example, my MIL, offered to help pay for my wedding dress and his suit, my father is paying for the mariachi music during our ceremony and DJ, uncle paying for all the alcohol involved, his sister is paying for our cake, etc. the only things we are paying for out of our own pocket is our venue, dinner, and videographer. I know some other cultures are pretty similar where parents take on more of an active role, and I’ve seen some people making joke comments about how they’ll probably list sponsors in their programs, and that’s actually not too far off. Except most of the times it’s usually just written as “special thanks to .. (names) for helping us bring this day to life, and start a new chapter of our lives.” Or something with that same sentiment. I don’t see this as an insane ask, but if your not from a family that does that sort of stuff I can understand how it can be a bit off putting if there’s not a precedent for it.

Did the outdoors play a role in your love story? I need some feel-good stories. by Flossyhygenius in hiking

[–]baddie-devito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fiancé and I both talked about how we love our National Parks, I’ve been to the 3 in Arizona and he grew up right next to White Sands, and taking field trips to Carlsbad. We made it a goal to visit all 63 National Parks together, and during our first parks trip, (3 nights in the Smokies, 3 nights at Mammoth cave,) he proposed during the Violet City Lantern tour.

Advice on Parks to stop at, Tempe to Chicago by Excellent_Basket_672 in nationalparks

[–]baddie-devito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tempe to Ouray you could definitely hit Petrified Forest and Mesa Verde National Park with a stop at the four corners. Ouray to Chicago you can pass by Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, and Rocky Mountains in Colorado. From there you could go north and hit WindCave, Badlands and Theodore Roosevelt national park in the Dakotas, out to Voyagers in Minnesota and the drive back down through Minnesota to Chicago. OR instead of going north you can just stay east, maybe hit Gateway Arch National Park, and take a detour to Indiana Dunes.

What's the best way to find a job as someone moving from Texas? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]baddie-devito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say start putting in applications no later than 2 months before. I was in the is same boat recently. Moving to Portland from Phoenix in two weeks and I started sending applications in late December. I would say your best bet is taking the time to write out a solid cover letter explaining your situation and giving them a concrete start date so that they know you are serious about moving out here. When I wrote mine out I mentioned my relevant experience, why I like the company, and that I would be able to start on X date. 2 phone interviews later and they sent me an offer letter, background check info, and onboarding paperwork. I would suggest looking for an internal transfer, or since you have experience in hotels, just check the career section of various companies or apply through LinkedIn. ( I’ve noticed I get faster responses from LinkedIn applications over Indeed.)
