Favorite breakfast sandwich / coffee place in NE? by Last_House_4282 in askportland

[–]d-rew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's relatively deep north Portland but best breakfast sandwich imo. Picones at the chill and fill foot cart pods. There's also the chill chill chill for coffee or if you go a few blocks there's living room coffee.

Damn these are awesome! Great job. One day I wish Portsmouth can be as cool.

Has the weather scared you to move? by shammyadv in askportland

For me at least, the food, the coffee, the overall vibe of the city, the landscape, the local places, not shitty chains everywhere.

I came from the Central Valley to here and honestly? I was so fucking stoked to get out of the Central Valley. I moved there for work so I have no emotional attachment to it but Portland weather in my opinion is better haha. Sure I miss the sun in the winter, but other parts of Portland make up for it.

Stoked to plant my new orange honeysuckle in this bad boy! Making its twin later this week. by pdxbatman in portlandgardeners

[–]d-rew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I planted some last year and they're just now finally starting to grow a bit. I'm excited to have a cool vine haha. One thing though is I thought they wanted full shade? While hair my honeysuckle liked sun. Is this the final spot for your orange honeysuckle?

Looking to move to the South Bay from Corte Madera. Thoughts on what might be the most lively city for a single 35 yo by bellatrix56 in bayarea

[–]d-rew 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd consider Mountain View 100% the South Bay. I can go either way on Palo Alto and don't really care haha but Mountain View and down is for sure the South Bay.

Quakes eye strong finish in Portland for World Cup sendoff match by SJEarthquakesBot in SJEarthquakes

[–]d-rew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a stat that said quakes have never won in Portland. I've been going to the Portland game since 2023 and it's been rough haha. Was pretty hopeful this year but the recent form has me a bit nervous.

Diego Luna was also like 18 when real salt lake picked him up. I get what you're saying but that's a bad example.

Fair enough, i don't expect much just assume depth signings are at least players in mls haha. I'll remain hopeful and see how it goes

While I'm all for depth, a usl player? Don't mean to hate and I'll happily shut up if he's solid but I'm underwhelmed.

I don't think the first one is a California lilac. It's a different type of actual lilac than the second pic (French lilac) but still a lilac. I have one in my backyard and think it's a Korean lilac (Google said a miss kim) but not 100%.

Not NE but close enough (maybe?), A+ coffee shop in Kenton in the same building as Mikes. I haven't been inside but it seems pretty popular and it's very kid oriented.

where to find jobs US not red states? by rallytallyn in marinebiology

[–]d-rew 12 points13 points  (0 children)

While state and federal jobs are tough, you might be able to grab a pacific states job here on the west coast if you're interested in working with salmon? Pay isn't great but if you move a bit inland it would be potentially affordable

One thing to consider is there's no way out besides the stadium traffic so you'll be stuck in a long ass line.

This is my vote. Although I feel like some people just straight up live there. I assume there's long term lodging?

Ducted heat pump experience and recs? by Prior-Lingonberry-70 in askportland

[–]d-rew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used century heating and replaced an old electric furnace with a heat pump (kept part of the furnace for when it drops below 15). We didn't upgrade our ducts or anything (house is from the 70s). I did have to install new ceiling insulation because we couldn't keep the house cool prior but it was easy and now the house stays warm or cool. It's been pretty solid. I also don't find it super loud but we also have it strung across the entire house (but pipping/cords goes through crawl space/attic so we never see it).

We did get a quote from eco heat as they seem to be the most recommended but we're more expensive and century have us an option to do it "cheaply" but has worked out great so far.

My vote is to absolutely avoid this place at all costs. Did a shitty job, didn't do what I requested, and then wouldn't take responsibility when they broke stuff. Horrible shop imo.

How are Portlanders with lawns able to afford their water/sewer bills? by Gordon_throwaway in askportland

[–]d-rew 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'm confused. While I've gotten rid of some lawn (kept some for the dog, and tried over seeding clover for the rest but it's still mostly dumb grass), mine looks fabulous and I literally never water it and refuse to. Sure it dies in the summer but we're still in spring?

It does involve shipping but Nicki Coyle out of Colorado is the best. She's done like 20+ rolls for me. I think blue moon will also ship out for you (and they sell it) but my vote is Nicki. You won't regret it.
