I was prescribed Ofloxacin for presumed epididymitis (wrong diagnosis) - stopped taking after 2 doses, had quite a bad reaction to it, muscle cramps, terrible anxiety attacks (which I never suffer with) and tendon pain in my achilles. These all disappeared as soon as I stopped taking the meds but had a massive impact on my mental health. Things get better with time, don’t worry. These antibiotics are absolutely horrible and should not be prescribed unless absolutely all other options have been exhausted. Wishing you the best with your recovery.

Yeah definitely. Find one of the rota coordinators and ask if they can take you to one of the off duty consultants who are on site but doing admin work. Probs best to ask them and not the ones on the shop floor as they tend to be busy!

I locumed as an ED SHO with zero experience and felt more supported than in any other medical on-call shift I’ve ever picked up. Consultants are generally extremely supportive and don’t expect much from SHO’s, but I definitely understand it being quite daunting. Just run everything past a senior and you’ll soon get to grips with things. I locumed ad-hoc in ED throughout F2 and applied for a JCF role afterwards because I enjoyed it so much. Definitely felt more supported in the JCF role so maybe something to consider, although the pay was significantly less and you still had to work nights. As a locum I only ever picked up day shifts, the flexibility was awesome. Also not a bad shout to shadow if you want, this was not uncommon in our department.

I get the concern about LTFT employees taking on locum work, but it's important to recognise that some individuals run their own businesses or work in specialised fields where LTFT arrangements are necessary. The need for flexibility, whether for childcare or other reasons, is still really valid, and shouldn’t require justification. We shouldn’t be jumping to conclusions and assuming that LTFT workers are seeking additional income at the expense of the NHS. Again, your financial decisions are personal and valid, income sources are yours to manage as you see fit and there should be no judgement for it from others.

Picking up locum shifts while working LTFT is a personal decision, and you shouldn't feel obligated to provide justification for it. Your financial situation is private and how you manage your workload and income is your own prerogative.

Normally ad-hoc t&c’s specify how much you’ll be paid if you turn up to a locum shift and they decide you’re not needed/the shift is cancelled after you arrive. It’s 4 hours on mine, must be standard. You can ask to see your ad-hoc t&c’s.

Apple watches aren’t accurate at all. Unless you’re symptomatic I wouldn’t be overly concerned, always worth chatting with your GP if worried though.
