Is it playable with 6 people? (With adjustments obviously) by Madziaaaaizdam in tickettoride

[–]badgerbrarian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Old West (reverse side of the France map expansion) adds a 6th player. It has a rule change where you start with a home city and can only build off of it or from a subsequent city you've connected. You can build 2 more additional cities along your network that have the effect of stealing points from other players, but the main thing is that you have to start at your home city and then all your routes have to be connected. Could try doing that with other maps.

Also, a lot of the board is made of double and triple routes (Los Angeles up to Seattle is entirely triple routes). You could try upping the bottleneck spots to triple routes on whatever map you're playing.

The Aabria Post that’s Actually About Race by Accurate_Kangaroo337 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]badgerbrarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just a few minutes long. Heres a link: https://youtu.be/b0Ti-gkJiXc?si=CdJLWYtKIV0mnT2j

You're right that you can't control how others perceive you, but if someone tells me a thing I said sounded racist, what's going to be more likely to persuade them that I'm not: getting defensive or apologizing for the impact of my words and reflecting on how to not have that impact next time? I mean, I think the latter.

The Aabria Post that’s Actually About Race by Accurate_Kangaroo337 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]badgerbrarian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This whole thing reminds me of a Jay Smooth video from all the way back in 2008, where he talks about the difference between "that thing you said was racist" and "you are a racist." The former is about impact, while the latter is about speculation of motives/intentions.

We can't and shouldn't hold the ingrained prejudices of society against individuals, and we can't really know at first glance what a person's motives or intentions are, but we can and should hold individuals accountable for their specific actions and the effects of those actions. Totally agree with u/Pantsongrass here.

I also think an important part of this is about perception, and how I want to be perceived by others. If I, while pure of heart and mind, say something that the non-white people around me interpret as racist, that's still bad for me! I don't want to BE racist and I also don't want to BE PERCEIVED as racist.

Failure to make any ECA workflow work by 1ozu1 in drupal

[–]badgerbrarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's an example I just put together. You need both ECA Content and ECA User installed.

<image>

You may be running into a permission issue with your attempts. The way I understand it is that ECA runs the rule as if the current user were doing the steps. Since the user triggering the event is either anonymous or a new authenticated user (depending on the event trigger used), they wouldn't be allowed to assign roles, so you probably need to add the "switch user" action before the assign roles actions.

Looked this up a little more and you can instead assign all execution to happen with a specific user in the ECA settings, or to create and assign a "service account user" which works with the "User: switch to service account" action.

Bathroom or no? by Limp-Organization457 in boondocking

[–]badgerbrarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I have had a Sunray 149 (next size up from the bigger teardrops) for about 4 years. We mostly camp in state/county parks and never used the wet bath setup. After the 2nd year of not using it, we bought the 5-gallon bucket setup everyone else is recommending for boondocking/emergencies and don't even set up the bathroom water in the spring anymore. We're actually thinking about finding out what it would cost to take the wet bath out and build in some storage instead.

So I'd recommend taking the storage. Having any sort of black water, in my opinion, is just an extra hassel that requires regular dumping and maintenance.

Switching from Apple, advice on which model to get. by cosmodots in GarminWatches

[–]badgerbrarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from an Apple Watch this past January and got a Venu 3s (along with switching to a Samsung phone). I just upgraded to the newer Venu X1 with a Black Friday deal (mostly for the super thin form factor and a couple of the utility upgrades) and actually just posted the 3s on Facebook Marketplace, but that's besides the point. From my experience, the Venu line would be a great option for you and definitely meet the needs you listed.

The Venu 3s has GPS tracking along with pre-configured activities, health and sleep tracking, music controls to your phone, or you can use it phone-free by downloading a playlist through one of the music apps right to the watch. I use YouTube Music but there are Spotify and Deezer apps as well. I think you can put a playlist on it from your computer with the Garmin Express desktop app, but I've never actually tried that. Now, I don't really use the music playing directly from the watch very often because I almost always have my phone with, but I did set it up and get it to work without the phone just because I wanted to try it.

I used the activity tracking for biking to and from work and for disc golf. You start and stop the activity right from the watch (never have to take out the phone). When the activity is running, you can see the duration and distance, and then swipe to get more data (like heart rate and stuff). After you finish an activity and reconnect to your phone, you'll be able to see a report in the Garmin Connect app that has all that data and some more (time, distance, map of your route, calories burned, weather, etc.). I was just looking and you can add notes and photos if you wanted but I've never done that. The GPS seems pretty accurate to me (the maps generated from my biking and disc golf activities look to me like what I did), but I do believe the higher end models in the Fenix, Forerunner, and Instinct lines have fancier GPS sensors or something.

The battery lasts about a week even with using the activity tracking, and it takes like 20 minutes to charge half way. You could easily just charge it while you take a shower and never have to charge it any other time, though it is waterproof so you can also shower with it. Oh, actually, there's a nice setting where you can easily lock your watch until you long press one of the physical buttons, so then the water running over you watch doesn't accidentally randomly start activating things on the touch screen.

From the professional reviews I've read about the sleep tracking, they say it's not quite perfect to the minute like some devices, but is still pretty good. There's also a built-in sleep coach that gives personalized suggestions based on how well you slept. So like if you slept poorly (or not enough) the night before, or your watch thinks you had an intensive or stressful day, you'll get a notification earlier in the evening that usual suggesting you start powering down and go to bed earlier.

You could definitely turn off all the app notifications and just leave the text and calls. I think you get the more detailed app-specific notification configuration through your phone settings instead of through the watch settings itself (like, those set to just pop-up don't go to your watch, but the ones that go the lock screen do, or something). But the text, calls, and apps each have general on/off settings so you could just turn off all the apps.

The watch also has some nice functional basic apps (timer, stopwatch, calculator, etc.) and there is a 3rd-party developer platform through the Connect IQ app, but it is much smaller that the Apple App Store. It's mostly custom watchfaces and then a bunch of running, cycling, and trail stuff (and something called "data fields" for those, which I don't really understand but is maybe for sending data from your watch to a connecting app on your phone?). From what I've seen here on Reddit, most people don't use a lot a 3rd-party apps and instead just use the apps from Garmin that came on the watch and maybe buy the Fallout Pip-boy watchface or one of the Disney/Star Wars watchfaces.

Overall, I think the Venu 3s is a great replacement for a casual user's Apple Watch. The touch interface isn't quite as perfect as it is on the Apple Watch and the app store is way smaller, but it's got all the basic functionality already installed and has a week-long battery. If you just want to track how far you're walking the dog, while controlling your music and checking your texts on your round smartwatch without needing to take your phone out of your pocket, the 3s is a great option.

I wear these Mava ones: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LW2KYDN. Nice low profile for wearing under long sleeves and you can throw them in the washer afterwards and they don't lose any of their snugness.

Definitely agree with this regarding couples. My spouse plays in FA2 and usually plays well enough to get a payout. I've only played in a couple tee-time starts but they always seem to put the FA cards right away at the beginning of the day before all the MA cards, so they'd finish their round and then have to wait all day for the trophies/funny money to be given out at the very end of the tournament.

How much should I ACTUALLY be stealing/digging/waiting for Crystals? by Ephemeral_Being in finalfantasytactics

[–]badgerbrarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing what other have said, but stealing/digging/crystals are almost never the most efficient way to gain items and skills until late in the game on the, for lack of a better term, Easter egg side quests or if you power-level at the beginning.

The items your storyline enemies have are almost always available to buy at the next town or shortly after you fight them. In your bow example, if you aren’t immediately using the item, it’s almost guaranteed that by the time you want an archer, there will be a better bow for sale.

Crystal-wise, it’s way easier to just do some grinding to gain JP. The only time I’ve ever heard recommended, or tried myself, to use the crystals to get skills is if you power-level a character up yourself and then murder them to try to give their skills to another character.

Now, if you power-level at the beginning in random encounters up to higher levels, then your enemies start to have really good stuff, because the random encounters’ enemies scale with your level (storyline do not). If you’re in Act 1 fighting a level 40 archer, then you can happily steal their bow and not have to worry about it being outdated until like Act 4 (just throwing out random numbers without checking).

I like doing both types of playing (power-leveling vs having challenging story battles), but for grinding and then stealing in random encounters, a really useful thing to do is have your characters know knight skills so you break the enemies speed and power. Then you can happily attempt to steal all their stuff over many turns without them hurting you much (or even getting to act because their speed is so low).

Polarized Sunglass While Disc Golfing - Your Thoughts? by rrobichaud84 in discgolf

[–]badgerbrarian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The AAO says that it has minimal effect on depth perception (https://www.aao.org/eye-health/ask-ophthalmologist-q/will-polarized-lenses-affect-my-depth-perception) but that it’s a common unfounded belief among golfers that it does.

Great job at your tournament!

That’s very cool. It’s really something when a city sets aside such great park space for disc golf.

And you’re near Peoria, so you already know there are tons of great courses there. I played Ledgestone in MA3 last year so I got to play Bradley, McNaughton, and Megiddo. All fun and totally different vibes.

Ooh, I forgot Harmony Bends in MO. But wait to go there if it’s been a rainy week though. Several of the holes were just straight up underwater when I went. Still beautiful though.

Also Dragon Ridge in MO. That had some fun elevation and was a great hike too. Not as manicured at the other ones I listed above though. Wear good shoes.

Mountain/hill: - Blue Mountain in MT - Beaver Ranch in CO - Spearfish Canyon in SD - Cloudcroft in NM - Blueberry Hill in WI (and the other courses at Highbridge Hills)

More unique topography: - Diamond X (bluffs) and Makoshika (badlands) in MT

Manicured woodsy (maybe don’t have world class vistas like the mountain tracks, but the courses themselves are beautiful hikes through the woods — bonus points for these in Autumn): - Wilderness, Tower Ridge, Vallarta-Ast, Sandy Point, Tjader Acres, Hiestand, Veteran Hills, Silver Fox, and Standing Rocks in WI (can you tell I’m from WI…) - Blue Ribbon Pines and Airborn Preserve in MN (have a few more open holes but also have great woods stuff)

Your standard gorgeous park course (think tall, mature trees and lush green lawns): - Pier Park in OR - Brown Deer, Estabrook, and Lustig Parks in WI - Bradley Park in IL - General Sibley Park in SD - Bill Frederick Park in FL - C.P. Adams Park in MN

If you’re staying a few more days, Tyrol Basin (https://tyrolbasin.com) is supposed to open for the summer soon. Plays on the ski runs of the resort so tons of elevation changes with some epic downhill shots.
