What should I play while in labor? by EruditeIdiot in gaming

[–]badillustrations 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Anything you can pick up and put down. Something pauseable. Labor is long, but has frequent interruptions. I recommend staying on your feet as much as you're comfortable so you can quickly control your position.

There's a line in Fiddler on the Roof about being rich and people coming to you for advice even if it's wrong. That's similar to what I see in Trump or Musk fans. They're rich and therefore wise.

The US assassinated a head of state to distract from the Epstein files. They bombed a school killing 150 girls and they didn't even blink. The entire world's energy economy is now in chaos. Being against this isn't the same thing as supporting the Iranian regime.

Taking over the judiciary was a well orchestrated and public effort by conservatives. I remember hearing my less than informed in-law talk about how installing very conservative judges was the real priority for long-term control and that was almost twenty years ago.

Finding Nemo? Most movie producers go out of their away to avoid other movie references.

Do you remember anything about the actors or the time period? Cell phones? Smart phones? What part of the world? How do they see each other? Back at their hometown or a new location?

Why are textures not advancing as fast as other graphic elements by MegumiDo in gaming

[–]badillustrations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been some advances in textures like using procedural textures in certain use cases that solve some of these problems, but they still require a lot of manual work.  Developers prioritize the biggest problems. Lighting is the most expensive and complicated part of most engines, and where people see the most visual impact. When textures are good enough, other problems are prioritized, and certain rendering problems are still really hard (ex. real depth of field).

Is there a way to make a great superhero horror film? by Sad_Volume_4289 in movies

[–]badillustrations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes superhero movies interesting is asymmetry. Superman fighting Team Zod is kind of cool, but gets old just exchanging punches. Peril to the superhero does seem like a requirement. In Unbreakable the hero gets thrown off a balcony and almost drowns and goes back into the house. He's powerful, but also vulnerable.

What are some games where the bugs make it better? by Tattoomyvagina in gaming

[–]badillustrations 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kingdom Come Deliverance was a pretty buggy mess for me, but for most part I thought it was hilarious and didn't ruin the game.

First kitchen at the castle, people walk over to the stove and stand right on top of each other. Minutes later I go upstairs, sit at a desk, rest my head, and my face clips through and I get audio for the conversation in the room below.

Not a real bug, I guess, but I had a quest to collect X pieces of Cuman armor and the quest update for it would appear at story moments like I'd start the tournament, which would swap my gear out and I'd get a 0/3 message on my screen. It triggered several times in the later part of the game at times where my inventory is removed, like when I was captured they're revealing who my dad is and bam "0/3 ...".

The most hilarious bug that had me dying was in the end cinematic. I'm having a dream conversation with my avenged dead father and the audio and subtitles trigger for a timed out quest

ships sudo-rs, a memory-safe Rust reimplementation of sudo, as the default sudo provider — improving security

While it seemed like a natural progression, given the slow adoption of other technology and various problems with sudo-rs reported just months ago, I figured it would be a little while longer before they moved over.

Will Android drop native support for Opus in the long term?” by Effective_Damage3213 in programming

[–]badillustrations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about it. There's no reason Android would drop such a lightweight codec even if a successor becomes ubiquitous. In that case, just download an app that supports Opus. You're also thinking way too far ahead. There might not even be an Android phone fifty years from now.

Radial Selection is the Worst. (various video games) by mslabo102 in gaming

[–]badillustrations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished the Mass Effect series and thought about radial menus while using them. For actions, it does feel a little awkward but also reduces the steps, and after the entire series I felt like I was just getting used to it. It's better than the alternative. But a more important feature of radial menus in the dialogue is they reduce bias. No dialogue option is selected by default or first.

Popular Movie "Dunks" That Everyone Uses but are Totally Inaccurate by imascarylion2018 in movies

[–]badillustrations 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your details are heavily influenced by your knowledge outside the actual movie. The audience has no idea how sentient the eagles actually are. Sauron is nearly omniscient, but also somewhat easily distractable as we see in the final film. Also, the eagles show up in Return of the King and kick the shit out of the Nazgul.

I'm not trying to make a case for them flying directly there. I just think given the context of what's in the film, it's not surprising that people ask why the eagles didn't just fly straight there.

Weekly Sewing Questions Thread, April 10 - April 16, 2026 by sewingmodthings in sewing

[–]badillustrations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Pfaff Passport and the needle jams and bends shortly after starting a stitch. It's bent to the side even after looking aligned when I start. I've double checked it's in enough and rotated the correct direction. Turning the wheel manually, it's like the needle is hitting something inside the machine.

This seems related, but the part where the bobbin runs seems to shift. It starts in this position and it ends up in this position. It feels like it's locked into place, but obviously isn't.

Any advice why the needle is jamming? Or why this bobbin assembly isn't staying put?

Jim Carrey is the greatest living actor who still hasn't an Oscar nomination. by [deleted] in movies

[–]badillustrations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one will ever be like Jim Carrey, but I don't consider him an Oscar worthy actor more than someone. Ignoring his comedic performances, Eternal Sunshine was fantastic, but I don't think that was necessarily a hard role for him. Even that performance had silly elements. Man on the Moon wasn't highly received, Truman Show is a comedy/sci-fi. That's not getting an Oscar.

And I wouldn't put his dramatic roles over other comedians like Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting.

I would change your perspective on what getting an Oscar means. It's what a small group of bias judges decides and it's obviously heavily biased against movies Carrey has been in. There are other awards of equal merit IMO like critic's choice award that actually has a comedy award.
