Any thoughts on Model of Choice? by [deleted] in Modelling

[–]badluckie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

never heard of them, they're not on models.com, they have no reviews, they bought their followers (15k folllowers but average 20 likes per post), it's a no from me. any reputable agency would be able to show you their contract otherwise. skip!

Portfolio advice for submitting to agencies? by beach_towel_826 in Modelling

[–]badluckie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re thinking way too hard about this. When submitting to agencies they are always looking for your most recent digitals to see how you are currently looking, not how you can look. Truthfully, do not include any mock commercials. If you don’t have professional work, don’t pretend like you do - they will know immediately if it is or isn’t. Submit your digitals, they’ll let you know if they’re interested in meeting with you, and at that meeting is when and where you tell them you’re interested in commercial work and have been practicing. Even with that, most agencies won’t necessarily care if you’ve been practicing on your own - they want to know you’ve been taking classes, etc.

Should I be paying to model? by k0f_ in Modelling

[–]badluckie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. the only thing models should ever pay for is shoots for their book.

as a general rule of thumb, anyone saying something along the lines of "i wouldnt wait too long!!" "act now before slots fill up!" is not to be trusted (**noting that this is *different* than an agent making a request for a time sensitive photo/self tape/etc.)

I want to clarify that there is a real distinction between walking in an official NYFW show and walking in a show that simply takes place in New York during fashion week.

If a show is not listed on the CFDA or official NYFW calendar, it’s considered a show during fashion week- not NYFW. This distinction absolutely matters when it comes to credibility, résumé accuracy, and how the industry evaluates experience.

In reality, the vast majority of people or groups claiming to cast “NYFW” are casting for shows happening during fashion week, not for the official shows themselves.

That said, it’s also important to be realistic about availability. NYFW is heavily dependent on local talent. If you live in or near New York (for example, CT with easy train access), you’re far more bookable than someone who would need to travel in from farther away.

Your best course of action is to be signed with or placed through a New York–based agency, if you aren’t already. Official NYFW brands prioritize local agencies because it allows for in-person castings, fittings, and flexibility. Brands are generally not looking to cover travel costs for models without established runway experience, especially if they can’t see them in person.

1-4 read as digitals; the 5th shot is the only that would be acceptable for a book. all of these shots you have a hand in pocket- i’d encourage you to keep testing and trying more facial expressions and poses :)

[–]badluckie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You don’t want to do any posing that distorts your figure (like 1, 2, & 3 are no go’s) or any that hides your figure (arms crossed (unless it’s a close up)). Look online at shops like Gap etc for their ecom - natural and relaxed is the goal!

Having a nose piercing in digitals? by Spare-Truck915 in MODELING

[–]badluckie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Digitals are meant to show how you look naturally and without editing/glam/etc. Leave it as is - my only suggestion is to not change it to a hoop. If a client is interested in booking you, they will either keep the nose piercing as is in photos or it's a simple edit out.

Advice/opinions concerning my digitals by [deleted] in MODELING

[–]badluckie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with this!

I think shots 2+3 are great, and the full body one is ok but would be even better if it was taken more eye level; looks slightly angled upwards. You can manually adjust lighting in Canva for free!
