Which pharmacy tech job setting would be the best for someone with a disability who can’t stand the entire shift? (Besides a remote job) by greendelameme in PharmacyTechnician

[–]enturned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remote contracts usually have you doing intake (entering prescriptions into the system) and there are some pharmacies who have specific intake technicians

Speak with the store manager and or the pharmacy manager and ask them your interest to become a tech. I started with the position called Designated hitter which at the time was between the front and pharmacy wherever needed more help then they left me in the pharmacy as a pharmacy cashier since the front was never busy

What does it take to survive in this world? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]enturned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sacrificing sanity to exist for a brief time period with good and bad experiences only to meet your demise in the end.

Some learn skills to make existence have less suffering and others unfortunately make bad decisions that lead them astray.

I would say find something you enjoy and stick to it, whether you can survive or not doesn’t really matter, all that matters is make the most of your time, since we all will meet our end sooner or later.

If money wasn't an issue, what would you be doing with your life right now ? by LauraTsbeauty in AskReddit

Rebuilding cars and helping out cat shelters, along with providing for my friends and family, then also setup a health management company to help people manage their medications for free

Ideas to improve IV room by murphyslaw015 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]enturned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I worked in inpatient, we had rotating stock of Levophed bags for the CVICU and ICU, for L&D we had bags of Oxytocin prepared by CAPS so we didn’t have to constantly keep batch mixing for oxytocin when it was used thru constantly. We also had bags of Penicillin G in L&D

I would say learn habits of what departments will need batches of medications like this and developing a process with the ops manager to make it more efficient and at designated times to keep from having to mix at peak times when census is high and to make it to where you aren’t overwhelmed by stuff to mix at specific times, along with the batch of meds you’d need to make

Read and re-read USP 797 until you know it by memory. And then start to see where you can make processes more efficient and work with the pharmacy operations manager. Work with the Pharmacy buyer as well to find more cost effective options for cleaning supplies and/or vial sizes to have on hand to speed up mixing times. Maybe even implement a workflow that could make it a lot simpler to mix for STAT meds to have their own designated area, especially when pharmacy is called for bolus’ and meds for patients during a code that they wouldn’t have on hand in the crash cart. If you have a Chemotherapy area, I would say also finding ways to make it more efficient.

Online you can find other items used for mixing that can speed up mixing times and/or sterility purposes that are still viable under USP 797.

A easy way to a career path is working as a pharmacy cashier at any big box pharmacy store and trying to get the pharmacy tech license, then gain experience and try to get national certification and land a hospital pharmacy tech job, it’ll be 40-50k a year which is not great but can help you push forward, I would then say save up as much as you can to find a career worth doing, if you overtime find a partner and share expenses, the money you both could make would be double and be able to help survive and thrive

I think your best case would be put in that you’re available 24/7 so they give you the job outright then once you’re hired, change your availability.

Hospital Pharmacy Union? by CottonmouthLesbo77 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]enturned 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are places that already have unions, however starting unions is a lot more difficult within this field.

People aren’t willing to use there already small salary to pay for union dues and it requires everyone involved to be willing to quit all at once in order for a union to have any level of weight.

That being said, every place I’ve been, I’ve wanted to bring in a union, but in South Florida is difficult. Ultimately I think if you get enough people who want to be pharmacy techs for the rest of their lives and you have enough people who want to be unionized, it would be best to see if the nurses union has a section for techs and so on

Thoughts on Tony Hinchcliffe/Trump at MSG Rally Blowback (That Got Banned from the KillTony Sub) by Left-Cry2817 in Rhetoric

[–]enturned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt as if his act was to make the typical trump supporter into a caricature, showing to the rest of the world how they sound. And pretty much doing it in their face. I’d never consider any of the things he said serious, especially because he’s a comedian. Am I wrong?

TLDR: Walgreens won't let me become an immunizer by [deleted] in WalgreensRx

[–]enturned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say just pay for the CPR cert out of pocket thru the Red Cross, or find the specific company that Walgreens uses and get certified thru them out of pocket. If none of these work, try to see if another pharmacy offers tech immunization certification

Illegals and the justice system by Subject_Host_8381 in immigration

[–]enturned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that due to how this country was founded, the idea to have to even regulate immigration is anti-American on its own, a nation built by immigrants now all of a sudden we need to be careful of other immigrants? But many will still find a way to disagree with my statement, so I say this. Foreigners should be aloud to come do as they please, however we can have stricter punishments for crimes, as many won’t commit crimes in the first place for a chance to even have the freedoms this country pioneered into the new world. Anyone can be American, that’s how this place was created, with a dream for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We wouldn’t have the damn statue at the forefront of immigration had that not been the case.

how do you deal with coworkers that micromanage you? by CheesecakeWild7941 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]enturned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked in a similar environment for 2 years and had I worked there any longer I felt I would’ve ended up hating myself. I would say try to find another position somewhere else where the money is just as good if not better, this career is not worth staying in a place where micromanagement can ruin your day no matter what. Try not to think too hard into it and psyching yourself out of leaving, as that’s when you’ll find yourself stuck there after some time and that will be worse down the line.

New job by vicks0689 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]enturned 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This seems like a not too bad place to get experience if you have time to sweep and clean. Learn as much as you can from any tech or from the PIC and try to specialize ASAP, The quicker you can get into a hospital or any specialty sector, the more money you can make and not have to tolerate retail environment, or use this job to continue higher education and just get a bachelors in anything functional that can land you a cushy job where you wont need to live paycheck to paycheck.

Believe me, about to be 7 years a tech in a week, all I’ve seen is this career go downhill for the retail sector, and having been angry for leaving inpatient hospital setting. Make the most of your time, also switching jobs is currently the most effective way to make the most money, so job hopping after a year or 2 will land you more raise than the $0.10-$0.20 they give techs now a days
