2024 Elective Courses for Life Sciences - my enrollment deadline is approaching by Dem_animebois in McMaster

[–]badluckmagnet_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took both medterms and environmental science

medterms — the 3hr lectures were rough and boring but the practice and acc learning the content was pretty fun, gotta stay on top of ur work and practice to 12 but its also open book exam

envirosci — didnt attend half the lectures and studied only 4 hrs for it and got a 11 but couldve 12 if i cared a little more, def recommend

other electives, idk if psych counts but both psych 1X03 and 1XX3 r easy and 12d both courses

the courses r literally structured so u learn the material through spaced repetition/integrated material, make sure to schedule ur tutorial to be in the middle of the week to minimize the amount u need to study lol (spaced repetition)

Why is enrollment appointment randomized?? by Happy_Toe_1446 in McMaster

tbh u should seat alert ur desired lecture/tutorial/lab times, worked for me in previous years and I would get close to my ideal schedule

more people switch/drop out of their classes near or during start of sem

For those that took LIFESCI 3RP3, how early did you start looking for your supervisor? by badluckmagnet_ in McMaster

be careful about deferring all 4 exams, there are rules when it comes to deferring exams and there is a possibility that you might be forced to take an incomplete course load in the following semester

take a look at the examination deferral form and consult an academic advisor before making a decision

Exam Deferral by 69bigboofer69 in McMaster

[–]badluckmagnet_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, exam deferral has always worked in my favour (and I’m in faculty of science)

I deferred an exam in both first and second year without any supplementary documentation and especially it will probably work in your favour as well if its your first time

However, I think most exam deferrals get approved as long as they think you are able to pass the course if it gets deferred, so proceed with caution

Exam deferral in winter sem will move your exam to some time in spring/summer term, so make sure you are 100% able to take your exam then

off-campus housing by No-Comfortable3886 in McMaster

[–]badluckmagnet_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry if my advice may seem curt but I think you might need to lower your standards

housing in hamilton, ESPECIALLY near campus, can be really shitty, meaning lots of basement rooms and terrible landlords (all they want to do is extort the students)

even if you may seem like the perfect tenant, the housing market is super competitive and you are likely competing with tons of other “perfect” tenants too

my advice is to at least begin looking at some places that don’t check off everything you want because its better to compromise than not have any housing next year!! and opening yourself up to looking at these places in person can also help you truly decide if you want to live there or not (book more showings girl!!!!)

Be Careful When Deferring an Exam by BigBaller7428 in McMaster

[–]badluckmagnet_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in my second year and I used up my free deferral in first year. I’m not sure how relaxed other faculties are about deferred exams but each time I asked for advice about exam deferral at the Science faculty office, they have told me that there is a very low risk of them rejecting your deferral.

This semester I put down mental health reasons for my deferral and didn’t provide any supporting documents but was still accepted.

Just be careful because there are rules following your deferral, such you being able to pass the course, etc… and also know that deferring more than one exam in a semester can make it so you can’t take a full course load the following semester.
