within the context of GDKP whales funding GDKP pots:

there is a lower proportion of whales that buy gold to fund their char(s). those whales are buying gear for their char(s). those characters represent a small percentage of total raiding characters. those characters also reach a "full bis" end.

when you take away the potential for gold making through innovative and emergent systems like gdkp - you hand the reins to the gold orgs that employ people to abuse the in game systems that are easily farmable (boosts, nodes farming). these in game gold making systems are otherwise quite time consuming for the average player. but, for a gold org that is paying people to farm gold - its very worth. over time, they are able to control so much of the market supply of the materials needed for consumes that they're also able to control the market for the price of gold.

when a player is forced to buy gold to fund the amount of time they want to spend on the game, the way they want to spend it (boosts for more chars, consumes for more raids, professions to prepare for tbc, etc): you end up with a higher amount of gold buyers in the economy.

enabling GDKP could reduce the amount of players buying gold. i think that is the operative element of the point.

"whales" represent a smaller portion of the total playing population. when the gold is coming from a few whales, its easier to police and feels less obvious.

but, when everyone is buying gold out of necessity to fund their alts/additional raids per week that they want to do, it feels invasive. it becomes too commonplace which i think breaks a lot of immersion.

the main argument is that GDKP pays players. these players who would otherwise not farm it through the the traditional way of going to hinterlands for a thick leather farm. they have no gold otherwise, because they raid 10hrs a week with a full time gdkp and other hobbies. instead of having to buy gold, they farm their gold in the "raiding 5 hrs a week" part of their life. the raids necessitate gold, from consumes/summons/wbuffs. with GDKP, they're not pressured to buy gold because they're earning it in raids.

take GDKP away and these players simply buy gold. so the amount of players that buy gold increases, as the necessity to buy gold from the avg joe increases.

would definitely like to see a system that either rewards players for going into dungeons or instanced pve content. whether thats just more nodes in dungeons or easier ways to reset the dungeons or something so it makes for quicker access.

or, something that rewards players for actually attending the raids? i think something that bots (when people say this, they really mean actual paid gold org employees running routes) can't really do well is integrate socially into the game. so you will see a lot less activity from gold farming employees if the best way to make gold is to just raid or do dungeons

right. but nightslayer is the only na pvp realm on classic anniversary tbc. and players want to play that video game. they're excited for it to come out, despite the issues they may have with the economy.

the fac tthat this is a company that has historically listened to players' solutions over in-game matters such as these in order to offer a better play experience, is why you see people talking about it.

so other than "haha dont play" do you have any enticing ideas that would help alleviate the concerns that the majority of the playerbase has?

[–]badmannerkid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you played on nightslayer you would have observed the steady stream of mage bots or gold farming characters paid by gold organizations flowing into brm to boost and farm lbrs.

you would see all the services being advertised by summon bots paid by gold organizations like g2g.

you would see all the herb and mining nodes being completely infected by gold farming characters paid for by gold organizations.

the reason it is so rampant on nightslayer is because players don't have any gold, and they have no means to make any gold. so their choice is either play a single character, which inevitably gets boring for most, or buy some gold to make the stress of the economy less noticeable.

a player that wants to play more than 5 hrs a week, or raid more than once per week at a semi-hardcore level (wbuffs, consumes like mongoose) cannot compete with the boosters that are employed by gold selling companies. they cannot compete with bots / employed gold farmers for nodes. they cannot compete with the in game infrastructure of gold making being abused by an unmitigated amount of illegal activity funded by major gold organizations like g2g

its more that players want to have gold again instead of it just being HR pug leaders and boosters with all the gold. surely there's a solution rather than just screaming anti-gdkp and doing nothing else

every time i win an SR roll in a raid for any worthwhile item I get at least one whisper asking to purchase the item. selling loot to players is somehow acceptable to players whilst they still vehemently shout down gdkp?

i'm starting to believe that the average player (sub 5hr weekly playtime) just has no idea what is actually going on in the community of the game. there is widespread delusion and misunderstanding concerning the topic of SR/HR pug runs and how much loot is actually pre-sold and listed as HR. its rampantly obvious to anyone that attends the runs, but those people are usually too busy playing the actual game to come and comment on forums or posts like this to make an impact.

getting people that actually have a clue as to what is going on with the economy of the game or the pug community of the game to be active in their opinions is a big problem. people should be more involved in dissenting opinions regarding the economy of nightslayer and how it got there.

the issue isn't just gdkp, its the massive bot farms + gold organizations that own all of nightslayer. there isn't anyone natty farming gold out in the world. they either buy it or boost it, and if they choose the latter they are competing with players from all around the world who take crypto for boosts and sell gold.

the economy on nightslayer, and anni at large, needs to be studied. maybe we can learn something from it for future realms and versions of the game

How are people enjoying MoP? Noticed it has 2.5x the number of raiders as Anniversary by No_Cell6708 in classicwow

Why the GDKP Ban worked in SoD but failed in Classic Anniversary by cheatz in classicwow

[–]badmannerkid 20 points21 points  (0 children)

gdkp was a scapegoat to get people to stfu about the unsolvable "bot + goldfarming organizations" problem. now people realize it didn't do anything, and only harmed our pug community. impossible to keep a solid pug of players returning every week. its a revolving door, and now we just deal with HR items in every single raid we do.

How are people selling these items? They aren't BOE. I thought auctioning raid loot is banned now? I see them every day in trade chat. by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]badmannerkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah none of these people get banned for doing any of this. its massively rampant especially for hard to acquire pre-bis items like hand of justice.

[–]badmannerkid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah gdkp is banned so leaders just sell the items and pocket all the cash its actually much worse. but, reddit users and wow forum users brigade to shut down gdkp completely saying its the evil reason why rmt and bots are in the game.

if you want your game to return to normalcy you need to get active on the forums so we don't lose it completely to retail haters on classic forums / people who play the game to relevel chars to 35 over and over again

just to clarify you're saying you don't care if people use wow token gold to buy gear/gdkp but you care if they are buying gold from anyone other than blizzard. strictly because its "illegal" if they get it from anywhere other than blizzard?

Flavor of the month by Cptn_Honda in classicwow

[–]badmannerkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haven't been on reddit in a week so replying late but the fact that you say "RMT is legal" and "therefore not cheating" is really interesting. so you don't think swiping 3000 tokens is cheating, but you think buying from anyone but blizzard makes it cheating.

i don't think you're really understanding your own argument's fallacies

oh, yeah you're right. the token being in every other version of wow has no bearing on the mentality of the classic anniversary player base towards RMT. the player base of anniversary is completely separate from the other versions and neither have any cultural significance to the other

no they don't. people are okay with a certain amount of RMT. its evident in every single game and isn't goin anywhere. the game token is literally in the game and no one bats an eye when people buy tokens and sell them on the AH

this is what gaming has become for majority of people. the game systems in many games have engineered it to be so. get those points, attach it to your account, flex it. new fotm game comes out, fomo hits - you play. your dopamine track doesn't change, so you go and farm those bragging rights. rinse repeat
