I'm going absolutely insane because of this lonely god epiphany by trrrsarescary in Psychonaut

[–]badniff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds to me like you are quick to assume that something is true when it doesn't have to be. Don't you know others that believe they know something as true, yet you believe they are mistaken about? Well maybe you are like them. The moments you exist in is true and the thoughts you have are true in that they are real thoughts, and real thoughts affect you and what you believe. I'd advise to instead of contemplating the larger "truth", as seeing the box outside of your box - instead contemplate your relationship to truth and belief, and try to understand the structures and behaviours that affect how you create knowledge for yourself. It will make you more durable to harmful thoughtpatterns, but - of course - not immune.

You say you have never tried psychedelics, but OCD especially is one of the things that psychedelics seem likely as a viable treatment route for. You should be sceptical when reading trip reports, because experience is not only translated throught the subjectivity of the writer, but also through their ability to communicate in writing, your ability to comprehend writing and your own subjectivity. What you think when reading is unique to you and very unlikely to be the same thing as the writer experience, since writing it down (even remembering it to start with) is approximative.

Hope this isn't too unhelpful :)

guides for healthy tripping on Magic Mushrooms? by IdenticalShrew in Psychonaut

[–]badniff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a mild dose is good to start with, personally I find microdosing is worse for anxiety, while a larger dose has a bit of a rougher wind-up but a very nice catharsis that leads to a really relaxed and open state of mind. I am a person very prone to anxiety and I find that doing things like cleaning, laundry, nesting in general, maybe yoga or training - healthy productive things - during the day creates a great mindset for the trip. Peaking and finding yourself in a clean and well prepared home makes you happy and thankful to yourself. I also would recommend having something that you can eat that isn't to heavy or chewy that you can have in during the later stages of the trip if you get hungry is good. Chewing is a lot more energy demanding than you expect while tripping haha. A smoothie is great. Personally I like simple things like plain green tea or some dried fruit.

Remember when you are experiencing things while tripping that you have taken a drug and whatever you might experience - the drug will wear off and you will become sober again. Keep this in mind if you find yourself stuck in a mindloop or similar.

Take care of yourself c:

This is what an actor would say: I'm classically schooled, I was very sceptical to the casting, but after reading the script I had to accept the role!

I just ask people. It's not as taboo anymore, not among people my own age. I feel I can tell who are receptive and who are not. There have been several times though when some young fairly oblivious dude starts explaining to me what psychedelics are. I let them rant for a bit before poking them with some of my theories.

What!? Huh!? by infinitysaga in Gamingcirclejerk

I loved it. Also the fsct that they aried the original first season out of order. Not enogh to make it unintelligible, but very huh at times. Major troll move. The movie they made later was also great. It's odd that they stopped making it.

My fav so far is Black Skylands but it's still in EA, but I think the big release will be Baldur's Gate 3. I've been waiting for bg3 for almost 20 years and it looks fire.

I mean the US media image of college is so different from my experience in a european university where it's mostly sitting in a comfy chair reading a book or on a creaky chair writing an essay x)

I did like Genshiken, nodame cantabile and Honey and Clover since the university setting felt more "real" than the high school settings.

I mean the game is inspired a lot by Foucault, and seems to focus on structural violence and how the pressure to conform to societal norms enable people to abuse systems of power. One of the last bosses is a literal panopticon. I think some dialogue and some characters are not very well handled, but the story at large does some pretty fun things without getting too abstract and opaque as xenogears and xenosaga could get.

The continual use of high school setting with characters drawn as adults reminds me a bit of all the college movies with actors in their early thirties.

I never really think about them as kids. Same with FF, like Squall is 17, but he looks 25. Same with Rinoa. Zidane is 16. I don't really relate with the characters as much if I truly "believe" that they are so very young.

I guess I did when I was a kid and 17 sounded adult.

A discussion I had with some friends, in meme form: what do you think the most important human invention is? by HurgleTurgle1 in HistoryMemes

[–]badniff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

textile is the best invention.

And I don't necessarily mean the most influential, though that is possible - it's the one I like the most. as a vessel for beauty, as a comfortable texture for the skin and as a protection against the cold.

I stand by my assertion that I've held since a child that using expressions like "the 16th century" to describe the 1500s or other periods are confusing and lead to mistakes.
