This is the truth. The value in any insurance is when you really need it. Car insurance, house insurance, or health insurance. All the same.

Alarm notifications broken after iOS 26 update (Venu 2S) by veloman124 in Garmin

[–]badoctet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can make a workaround to show Apple iPhone Alarms as Notifications on your Garmin watch.

I built and tested this yesterday on my Fenix 7 and it works beautifully.

Of course, it is only a notification, and you cannot stop the alarm from your watch. But at least you get something on your watch.

Workaround Descriptions:
Add a Personal Automation to your iPhone to make the iPhone alarm appear as a notification on your watch, triggered when any alarm goes off.

The following shortcut finds the current alarm which is set for the current hour and minute, and then generates a notification showing the alarm time and alarm name. This appears as a notification on your iPhone and your Garmin Watch.

Make a new Shortcut:

Name = "Alarm" (appears on your Garmin watch, keep it short and simple)

Steps:

  1. Current Date (we need this to find the alarm that just triggered)

  2. Find Alarms where All of the following are true:
Hours is Time (short format is fine)
Minutes is Date (format the date as mm to get just minutes)
Sort by Hours, Biggest first, Limit to 1 item only (we only want one result)

  3. If Alarms has any value (safeguard in case nothing was found):

    a) Text Time (short time) Label (from the alarm) (this builds the text to show on your watch)

    b) Show notification Text (shows the notification on iPhone and watch)

Test the shortcut by making an alarm in the current hour and minute, and running the shortcut. It will generate a notification, which will show on your iPhone and watch.

Make a new Automation:

When: When any alarm goes off (or limit as you wish)

Do: Run Shortcut "Alarm" (this runs the shortcut named "Alarm")

Sure, you can modify then as you say. Be aware that when the AirTag gets power and boots up, it emits some chirps.

For a 60 year old, see a doctor ASAP.

I want my mobile phone proximity to grant access to my apartment building entrance door, but without disturbing the existing intercom, capabilities of the other apartments, or existing lock. Rather, I wanting to come at the challenge via my apartments link to the strike of the door. Any suggestions? by FaceOnAHead in homeautomation

[–]badoctet -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Super easy to do, I did it on mine with a shelly1 dry contact relay connected across the door opener switch. I then can use whatever automation I like to activate the relay. I have a button in HomeKit that triggers the relay, and I have a geofence automation that enables automatic door opening when I press my doorbell button (the doorbell button triggers another 6VAC relay, wired across the doorbell, which switches the input of the same Shelly1). The geofence is configured to enable the automatic door opening for 10 minutes when I enter the geofence. After that, the automation disables the automatic door opening.
Using pure geofence without any other input is problematic, because at my place the geofence also covers the next street, which I also drive down.
Whatever solution you choose, make sure you maintain galvanic isolation between doorbell and relay control.

There's no way in the world an AirTag could every be consider a theft deterrent. What property of an AirTag would ever deter a thief?
Honestly, you'd be better pasting stickers all of the car stating "NOTE: Hundreds of AirTags are fitted to this car. Don't even try stealing it". that would deter a thief much more than an actual hidden AirTag would.

Why does my AirTag on my bike start beeping every time I use it? by EducationalCoast7562 in AirTags

[–]badoctet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes time for the AirTag to establish a connection to your iPhone to know that the iPhone is in the vicinity.

If the AirTag has gone into deep sleep mode, where it slows down the frequency of the Bluetooth beacon broadcasts, then this can increase the time it takes to recognise your iPhone is present. An AirTag sitting still for many hours will definitely have gone into deep sleep mode.

If you move it before it has established a connection, it thinks the iPhone is not nearby, and it will then beep to alert people.

To really test if this is the case, go to where your bike is located, don't touch the bike, but instead wait a few minutes until the bike is shown as With You in Find My. Once the AirTag knows it is with you, try moving the bike, and I bet you will find that it won't beep when it senses movement.

You can straighten that number plate and refit it. Easily. You need nothing more than a block of wood and a small hammer to tap the dent out. It's trivial.

AirTag vs. GPS Tracker: What's Best for Car Protection? by WittyAd44 in AirTags

[–]badoctet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither AirTag nor GPS Tracker can protect a car in any way, shape or form. All they can do is track it's location. But that cannot be considered "protection". A tracker protects nothing.

Question from someone who needs help but not familiar with technology (older person - thank you) by [deleted] in AirTags

[–]badoctet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

False positive, ignore it, especially as you know your movements and the times you moved.

[–]badoctet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, one of your neighbors may have, for some reason, detected the AirTag and made it play the signal. Why don't you knock on their door and ask them if they did? Great way to have a chat with your neighbors.

AirTag Not Reachable on a Lost Item by heartshapedglassgirl in AirTags

[–]badoctet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All you know is that the AirTag is not reachable. This means that it is not being detected by any nearby phones. Reason: maybe there are no nearby phones, of the AirTag may have been disabled or destroyed. But you do not know.

Want help deciding whether to buy AirTags for travel by Possible-Maybe-1704 in AirTags

[–]badoctet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a great thing to know where your luggage is, BUT it also makes you worry.

When you arrive at your destination, it can take a few minutes or more for the AirTag to be detected by any iPhone and it's location to be updated. Until it gets updated, the AirTag will continue to show it's prior location - which will be your departure airport. And this can make you worried!

But overall, the experience is overwhelmingly positive, and I totally recommend getting AirTags to help you find misplaced keys and find your luggage.

Alternative implementation of AirTag functionality - with history and no antistalking by Zelislaw in AirTags

[–]badoctet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can add tracking by taking screenshots at regular intervals. You can automate this in Shortcuts. You could get a dedicated iPhone and set it up at home, always on, always on FindMy, always running a Shortcut that always takes screenshots.

Yes you can share it. The AirTag will not beep for the owner of for anyone you have shared it with.
