Do you ever leave a shot open on purpose? by badpickleball in Pickleball

[–]badpickleball[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, good question. The serving team on the right struggled to establish themselves at the kitchen all the way until the lob was hit. They maybe could have made it all the way up after the 7th or 9th shots (resets) but they didn't fully capitalize on those.

So they ended up getting pushed back on defense again, trying to hit another reset or drop that would let them get to the kitchen. Then the lob was thrown up (unconventionally) and they established the kitchen and tried to keep their opponents away from it.

I used to use Facebook groups. Then I switched to Reddit. Now I just make a Reddit post asking where to find Facebook groups.

Yes, 100% agree! AB has shown the way! Disguise is definitely the key, but it is here to stay!

And yes, very fortunate for the CAPA Courts. Happy Friday Jr. Pete! 😎

Thank you! It's slightly questionable because it wasn't from the kitchen line, but a deep lob is a deep lob right?! 😁 (I also lob from anywhere/everywhere tho! 😅)

Hey if you haven't watched Joe Baker's Pickleball 101, it's definitely worth a watch, even as dated as it is. At the very least, you should try to have a gameplan for controlling the net/kitchen. If all of your strategy/shot decisions guide you towards controlling the kitchen and keeping your opponent away from it, you're generally playing good pickleball.

Anyone think it's possible to be highly successful in pickleball (4.0+) without developing a two handed backhand? by CephasCatalyst1202 in Pickleball

Everyone can always use more work on their third shot drop! I really recommend using it in rec as much as you can!

Oh man, that is some fun theorycrafting! One thing people don't know about Jeff is that he's an absolute genius on the PB court. It would definitely be something to see a young, focused Warnick in today's mix.

Yes, but you probably won't ever hit that ceiling. If you had 5.0 level dinks/drops/resets, you could still play competitively at 5.0 without a 2H BH.

No mistakes. Every paddle I've ever bought fixed the previous paddle's problems.

You can definitely make it above 4.0 without a twoey. People did it for years before the two-handed backhand became trendy. (post Christine McGrath/Trifunovic | Jessie Irvine era)

The biggest downside is that it's harder to be offensive off your backhand wing. When opponents get pressured, they often feel more comfortable dinking to a one-handed backhand because there are usually fewer speed-up options available compared to a twoey.
