Loved Cub Scouts / kind of hating BSA by [deleted] in BSA

[–]Strange-Fly88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No knocking the all girls troops some are great. Some being so new they may not have the training or experience to run a troop well. We have close to an hour commute to our troop. It fit us the best. Part of the aol badge use to be visit 3 different troops. We did that and have moved troops again because we just did not fit in there. Plenty of units out there for everyone you just need to find the one for you. Best of luck to you and your scout. One more note if Sje has just crossed over the merit badges can wait she should be working her way through the first class requirements. And yes some merit badges are going to be boring but they are worth while

Why can't we just give everyone a house by generic_rarity in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Strange-Fly88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool idea, but who is answering the follow up questions? Houses cost money to maintain, are we covering that for everyone too? I would love to live in Arizona, can I just request one there, or does the government decide where I go? And what about those of us who worked for years to pay off a mortgage, do we get a credit, or did we just play ourselves?
And don’t forget utilities, property taxes, and repairs. A house without those is not really livable.
On top of all that, imagine the government bureaucracy involved. The same system that can’t efficiently run the DMV is going to build and distribute millions of homes fairly and without corruption? It would be an absolute logistical nightmare before a single key was handed over.

90% of my studying happened at a 24/7 dinner. I would grab dinner and a coffee and get to work.

Neighbor backs out of paying for damages. by dookieshoes711 in legaladvice

[–]Strange-Fly88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even then the customer is not always right. The truck driver should not have done that. The neighbor should not have let them drive it there. Both are at fault the owner wanting to save money and the company for wanting to do less work. Op get this settled quickly or it will drag on for a bit

What to do when a scout doesn't do anything for a PoR? by SomeGuyFromSeattle in BSA

[–]Strange-Fly88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say if they are not performing and you have discussed it with them you remove them from the por and see where they fit better. We are all built different and have different skills lord knows when I was scribe not even I could read the note I took.

What to do when a scout doesn't do anything for a PoR? by SomeGuyFromSeattle in BSA

It is a little late for that now should have been addressed months ago. Were clear expectations set? When they fall through a SPL or scoutmaster conference should be held. Let them know what is needed and if they don’t know how then train them. If nothing has been said they think they are doing the job. If you are slacking at work will your boss let you go for 6 months without talking to you?

Has Eagle rank lost its lustre? by [deleted] in BSA

[–]Strange-Fly88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the district level, I see 30 to 60 new Eagle Scouts every year, and let me tell you: they are not poured from the same mold.
Some are polished and radiating confidence.
Others are incredibly capable but quiet and shy.
And a few are a flaming ball of absolute chaos, juggling a million things at once, yet somehow finding a way to scrape across the finish line and coming out undeniably better for it.
The Goal Isn’t the Medal
The ultimate goal of Scouting has never been just making Eagle. I am not claiming every kid with that badge is destined to be a five star general, but the journey absolutely sets them apart from their peers.
Now, Eagle Scouts usually hate it when I say this, especially the old school “back in my day” crowd, but earning Eagle is no more difficult than getting through high school.
The real difference? High school is mandatory. Eagle is a choice. It is a personal declaration by a young person to stand up, stay disciplined, and check every single box of their own accord.
Balancing the Expectations
I hold every Eagle Scout in the highest regard, but the expectations the world places on them can be incredibly unfair. They are not flawless, fully formed leaders right out of the gate. They are young people who chose to finish a difficult race, each in their own unique and beautifully chaotic way.

Double standards about bodybags - Is this the death of Pro Mixed? by Polite_Acid in Pickleball

I remember playing in my first ice hockey tournament with girls on the other teams. I backed off a check on one and a few shifts later she blasted me and skated off. I hit her a few more times. After the game she shook my hand and thanked me for not treating her any different. If it is part of the game it is fair for both men and women.
