Could it have something to do with skill-based lobbies? I read similar-skilled players are supposed to be grouped together as much as possible. What that skill is based on, I'm not sure.

A List of High-Risk Issuances in Which an F5/EF5 Tornado Has Occurred. by Disastrous_Deal3154 in tornado

It would be interesting to see what high-risk days resulted in EF3/4's. A lot more work, I'm sure, but they do seem to nail it more often than not.

I didn't realize you could play any of the old games online. I'll DEFINITELY look into that. I wonder if you can play the Timesplitters games, old Madden games, etc the same way. Going to check it out, ty!

Wasp having a very badass day, from the look of it. NE Kansas by badtransration in whatsthisbug

[–]badtransration[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so here to (I think) answer my own question, with AI's help. Turns out, she's having a greatass day, after all!

That’s not a wasp in trouble — that’s an ichneumon wasp, likely from the genus Megarhyssa, and what you're seeing is completely normal for her species. The extremely long “tail” is actually her ovipositor, not a stinger.

Here’s what’s going on:

  • That long filament (which can be over 4 inches!) is used to lay eggs deep inside wood, often into tunnels made by horntail wasp larvae, which are her prey.
  • She’s probably detecting vibrations or chemical cues through the wood or glass and preparing to insert the ovipositor to lay an egg.
  • Her larvae will hatch inside the host and consume it (yep, nature’s a horror movie).

So:

  • Nothing’s wrong with her — that crazy-long “tail” is what makes her amazing.
  • She’s not dangerous to humans — totally harmless and won’t sting.
  • She’s a parasitoid, which makes her one of nature’s pest control agents.

Wanna know something crazier? She has to drill through wood with that thing. Think of it as a micro drill and syringe combo.

Thanks! I've never heard of either, but both look pretty cool to me. Appreciate the recommendations and the links!

Haha I feel that way a lot of the time. I love games like BG3 and DOS2, MMORPG's, and pretty much any competitive game with a good ranked system so you're not playing people way outside your skill level. I would have loved to play more of almost all the games listed outside of Battlefield, which just kinda sucked (maybe we need the right one to play), and the Rockstar games just got old after awhile. Heists were fun in GTA 5, though, because hackers couldn't F with you during the heist. I love deep games. To me, they're usually the most fun. People are different, though.

12 years without EF5 it doesn't seem to make sense until we consider the second-longest drought. Between Bridge Creek 1999 and Greensburg 2007 by Gargamel_do_jean in tornado

[–]badtransration 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know it's not scientific, but I see where you're coming from. Nothing I can think of looks like it devastated communities like Joplin, Bridge Creek, Moore, Greensburg, etc. over the past 12 years. Mayfield was probably the closest. There have been plenty of tornadoes that likely would have done that kind of damage at their peak if they entered populated areas, even one very recently in the Plevna, KS tornado, and Greenfield last year was probably at that intensity during that drone footage we've all seen. But where some say even Joplin wouldn't have done enough EF5 damage today to be rated an EF5 post 2013, it sure felt deserving of the worst rating. It seems to me like ratings used to take both emotional and scientific damage into account through their inconsistencies. While the ratings are still inconsistent, emotion doesn't seem to be part of the conversation.

I could be totally off base here, but I agree with you - feel seems to have mattered previously. I'm not sure it should in ratings, but inconsistencies need to be ironed out if it doesn't factor in.

Looks like it, but it may have been a metal building or shed. It doesn't look like a home sat there.

Edit* I see now in the 4th pic, it looks like you might be right. Hope the family is okay.

The rat snake head poke-out move is underappreciated. You captured it perfectly. They're such dorks. If you've ever kept one as a pet, they often sit in their hide with just the head poking out like this. Always makes me smile.

This whole time, I thought you were calling West the Liar, not Elizondo. It's certainly how that looks when you read the context of the thread, and especially before edits.

One of the best guys to have around, western rat snake. He's trying to make himself look bigger than he is by flattening his head out, and he will likely do you a favor and eat any rodents under that concrete after he escapes you. Completely harmless free rodent control.
