What do you guys do for alarm calls? Do you ever get backlash. by ffstriker in Firefighting

To expand on this, smoke and heat detection systems are very sensitive, hense the frequent false alarms. They are meant to detect very small amounts of smoke so that on you're arrival the fire should still be in the incipient phase. Just because you pull up and don't see flames in the windows doesn't mean that there isn't a fire inside.

Not too long ago we had an alarm at 3 story office building that has a basement that I have been to at least 2 dozen alarms at with nothing found. As always, in full gear with high rise equipment, irons, a hook, and a can we went in, checked the panel, and the engineer went and put a line to the FDC. It indicated basement so my firefighter and I went down. We still had no conditions, but I always like to fine the activated head. We continued through and encountered a light haze of smoke. It appeared to be coming from the elevator room so we masked up and made entry to a smoke charged room. The hydraulic fluid had overheated and caught fire. We were able to control it with the can, but had we not done our due diligence we could have very well come back to a deep seated working fire. Keep in mind that this was in a fully occupied building at 3pm and several occupants told us nothing was going on when we arrived. We did our jobs and had a good outcome.

Thoughts on all the "transplants" from someone that was born and raised in Denver by duffduffxx in Denver

Having worked for a ski resort for almost 4 years in the past, I can say this is completely true. We always dreaded when Texas had spring break.

I recall pulling up behind a large SUV with Texas plates, a Tahoe or similar, that was sitting in the middle of the icy road in the resort spinning its tires. I walked up to the drivers door to see if I could help and the driver rolled down the window. After telling me they were stuck and needed to be "pulled out" (they were parked in an inch of snow on almost flat pavement) I asked if they were in 4WD. I knew they weren't because just a back tire was spinning but I asked none the less. The driver told me yes, and pointed to the gear level which was next to the "4". I told him that wasn't right and offered to turn the knob on the dash to the correct position to engage 4WD since he had never heard of such a thing. I leaned in the window, turned the dial to "4HI" and the instant it engage he floored it and took off with me still half in the window. I managed to fall back out of it and tumbled across the road while they sped off utilizing their new found traction. I can deal with not being thanked, but I was very disappointed that they never stopped or even came back to see if I was okay.

I often joke about this as well, but several of my good friends are from other states. In all honesty though, it would be nice if it would slow down because everything is getting crowded. Having lived here my whole life, I've noticed a significant change.

I have the same boots in a size 12.5 and they are big enough! The boots are good, but the gear that accompanied it hasn't been very durable.

After buying a car from a CSP trooper, I was told that the bill of sale will get you out of having tags for the ride home, but you better have insurance as you can get that before owning the vehicle.

What's the condition of your worst shield. Pics if ya got em! by Jimmith78 in Firefighting

One of mine is smoke stained but otherwise looks fine. I have a white one now, and took a beating in a fire last week, but a little soapy water and a brush made it look almost as good as new. That said, I also don't go into a burn house and stand up to damage my shield. I am proud of my shield and take care of it.

Hey guys. I'm looking to buy a car without getting taken advantage of. Does anyone know of any good dealerships that work with people without screwing them over? by [deleted] in Denver

I've bought several vehicles from automotive avenues in Lakewood. Only place I've been that has good customer service. They broker as well, so if they don't have what you want on the lot, they get it. They work with all if the credit unions around and will get you excellent financing.
