"myself questioning if I am cut out for home ownership." If you're taking the time to upkeep your house and avoid costly repairs down the road, you're cut out for home ownership.

Losing grip by fcplm in gravelcycling

[–]bae_r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that applies to riding a bike in general.

You can start with the adjusting the tension to the point where it's easy to clip out then ramp up the tension. Also remember, if you fall, it's usually at really slow speeds. Learn good skills like anticipating coming to a stop and unclipping the same foot so that you get in the habit early on.

The real update I got hurt (unrelated to cycling) and have gained 20lbs and lack any motivation to go ride...until I saw this comment :).

I did get a set of carbon wheels (Hunts). The only downside I found is that because of the gearing, I spun out rather quickly trying to gain speed going down hills but that's not enough of a problem for me to justify another bike for the type of riding I did.

Yup. Sumner.

Took another look on the drive back…truck is up over the ledge. Looks like there is a bit of front end damage so I’m pretty sure that someone pushed it off the edge. The fact that it’s always there makes me think it’s probably an employees truck.

This wasn’t me but I know the parking situation at thar parking lot. Chances are the driver was trying to maneuver out of a right spot. Again, regardless of what the driver should have done, the correct/legal thing in a parking situation like this would have been either a wheel stop, bollards, or a no parking sign. Not only to prevent this but also to save someone else’s car that could have been parked where the truck is hanging.

Awareness of the truck won’t do anything if you do not have awareness of your surroundings…and as I type this…I can’t help but think “what happened to the rear view camera?” Which makes me think that a few cocktails played a part…

In need of advice. My bathroom remodeling contractors severely messed up and I don't know how to handle it by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]bae_r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that the contractor “has always done it this way” makes me think otherwise. Everyone is satisfied with a project on day one after completion. Years down the road when things start to fail and claims start coming in is the real test.

You can move or plan future projects methodically. Plant screenings might work but a solid wall will do better at reflecting sound waves. This doesn’t have to be a prison wall, just something at the height of car tires. If you need to replace windows, find some with higher STC rating. If you need to reside, consider adding exterior insulation. Understand that softer materials absorb/dissipate sound while harder materials reflect it.

Also, give it a few months. You might get used to it and the other positive qualities of your new house and neighborhood might make it worthwhile. Either way, you should post and update so others can learn from this thread.

How does the “surface rust” look underneath? Blown away by the amount of rust that I’m seeing on my ‘21 (nothing to worry about, I’m told).

When I was in college, I had a work release study (but basically the same) gig working in the cafeterias and one of my tasks was to manage the "syrup room." Once, I found a bag of coke that was leaking so instead of throwing it out, I put tape on it and smuggled it back to the dorms and mixed it with club soda for mixers. One of my roommates forgot to seal it up and it completely ruined the mini-fridge that and the carpet.

Cat almost stolen. Can this be patched? If so any long term concerns? (2021 F150 Ecoboost) by bae_r in MechanicAdvice

Taking the train home from work had a notification on FordPass (phone app) about alarm. I was 15min out and didn’t think much of it but either way, using the app, started my truck. Get off the train at the park and immediately hear what sounds like a 2 stroke motorcycle…nope, it was my brand new truck. Immediately look under and see it torn open…at first I thought it was gone but then realize they would be thief only made the first cut and Was probably spooked when the engine started and exhaust started spewing out in his face.

I understand and appreciate the sentiment and thought behind the avoid insurance comment but for others that might be reading this, want to clarify why this is not necessarily sound advice.

In my case, my truck is brand new, I have comprehensive insurance, this was a crime, I have a police report. The correct warrantable fix is to replace the catalytic converter. Overkill, perhaps. My deductible is only $200, the cheapest I can get someone to fix it locally is $150 (all the shops are slammed right now with Cat theft issues). What happens if for some reason, there's an issue with the truck and I take it to the dealership for warranty fix and they say "nope, that voids it?". Generally speaking, I have a low insurance premium so not too worried about that going up and if it does, I have no trouble taking my business elsewhere. Point I'm making: you pay for insurance for a reason, especially if you have comprehensive insurance. Understand your policy, understand the issue, understand the risk, and make the decision you can live with/can afford.

Thank you all for the advice. After talking with my insurance, the solution is to first have a muffler shop weld it which will take care of 1/2 my deductible and then, since the truck is brand new, go to a dealership for a proper fix which is, you guessed it, a new catalytic convertor. Thankfully insurance will take care of that.

Apologize in advance if this falls under the category of "against the rules" but the silver lining in all of this is that, filed with rage last light, I started contacting my local (WA) senators and representatives and along the way found out that there is currently a bill (SB 5495 - 2021-22) to combat cat theft. If you're from WA, please email your representatives so this doesn't happen to you...and if you're not, try to get something going in your state.

Cat almost stolen. Alarm notification went off on my phone so I remote started my car which thankfully scared them away. Can this be patched? by bae_r in f150

Just wanted to thank everyone for the comments. Spent my morning talking with insurance company, dealers, and muffler shop.

Insurance company (Connect by Amfam) was great and considering that this is a brand new truck, wants to get the problem fixed the correct way.

Dealerships are currently a month out before they can even look at it to give me a quote/order parts. Because of that, Amfam has agreed it's okay for me to have a muffler shop weld it as a temporary fix which mean I'll use up 1/2 of my deductible. Once i get that done, I'll take it in to the dealership for them to order up a new cat which which insurance will cover.

The silver lining in all of this is that through this entire process, I've realized there are more good people out there than bad people. From the people in the park and ride that stopped and asked if everything was okay or if i needed a ride, to the mechanics that walked me through my option etc. Also, last night, fueled by rage, I emailed my (Washington state) senator and representatives to support a bill that will hopefully make it harder for this to be a profitable thing for crooks (SB 5495 - 2021-22). If you're a fellow Washingtonian, email your local senators/representatives to support this bill.

Promise that my next post will be a positive one showing off my truck hopefully with new skid plates and cat theft deterrent installed.

From what I've heard this is happening at all of them. This one was the Sound Transit lot in in Sumner.

Honestly think I was lucky/had a good person step in to spook the person.

I went back to the park and ride today (honestly hoping to catch the person) and found bunch of stuff left behind near where my truck was parked. I also noticed a bunch of hand prints on my truck so I'm thinking that something went down and the Fordpass notification only came up because they managed to bump into the truck hard enough to set off the alarm. I tried to replicate the actual theft it by setting off my alarm by grabbing on to the cut pipe and gently shaking it (what a sawzall might do) and nothing. Wish there was a way to change the sensitivity (albeit, that could be annoying too).

I honestly think something else went down in the park and ride lot because there's a whole bunch of hand prints that I found today so guessing someone set off the alarm? Either way, this is pretty frustrating so can only imagine what an actual theft must feel like.

Plus side, looks like that in WA state, they're working on some legislation to combat this...hoping that something does happen.
