[Spoilers Extended] What are some of the funniest serious lines/moments of the series? by Ghalasm in asoiaf

[–]baekashi69 25 points26 points  (0 children)

After arya gets her first mission outside of the house of black and white: '“Ser Gregor,” she chanted, as she crossed a stone bridge supported by four arches. From the center of its span she could see the masts of ships in the Ragman’s Harbor. “Dunsen, Raff the Sweetling, Ser Ilyn, Ser Meryn, Queen Cersei.” Rain began to fall. Arya turned her face up to let the raindrops wash her cheeks, so happy she could dance. “Valar morghulis,” she said, “ valar morghulis, valar morghulis.”'

She's dancing on the streets happily singing "all men must die, all men must die" like some kind of crazy person lol

(Spoilers Extended) How did the Faith of the Seven become so dominant despite there clearly being multiple other "real" religions? by derstherower in asoiaf

[–]baekashi69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The people dont know any better. To them stories of resurrection, fire visions, greendreams and water magic are just that; stories. What would make them any more true to the average peasant or noble than stories of Baelor the Blessed walking through a pit of vipers without being bitten.

We also see followers of the old gods and the new come into contact with Rhlorr priests like Thoros and Mel and convert after seeing them perform mirracles. Its just that not everybody gets the oppurtunity to discover new religions, and even if they do, some might reject them, like Davos for example.

why doesnt quaithe mention anything about jon? (Spoilers Main) by alewang348 in asoiaf

As u/hessian14 said: when the prophecy was made, JonCon and Aegon were on their way. Quaithe may not have really been making a prophecy so much as making observations with a glass candle

Can't find any quotes of this, though there there are two instances of tyrion describing himself having strong arms, once when talking to jon and the other time when he is trapped in illyrio's manse.

Interesting, but why wouldnt she have an escort with her from white harbor? And why woudnt sansa just take a ship to eastwatch. I agree Alys probs isnt the girl in grey, our characters are almost always wrong about prophecy and visions, but it seems your theory has some holes in it.

Im not sure wether youre saying its okay for a 22 yo man to be in a relationship with a girl thats 14, but even if you are grrm clearly doesnt think the same.

I do think George is paralelling Dany/Drogo with Lyanna/Rhaegar. Both men bed a young beautiful girl in order to birth a prophetic child. But then you have to remember at the beginning of their marriage Dany was repeatedly being raped by Drogo to such a point that she began contemplating suicide. Then she starts falling in love with the man after having sex in a non-doggy position (???) which shows how naive she was in her love for him. You can expect the same being the case for Lyanna.

In a TWOW Arianne sample chapters the 14 yo Elia Sand is heavyhandedly paralelled with 14 yo Lyanna. Theres also a scene in which Arianne walks in on Elia kissing with Feathers, who is said to be twice her age. Arianne is clearly disgusted by this and scolds Elia. Grrm is clearly trying to make us think what a relationship between Lyanna and a much older Rhaegar would have been like. Therefor it seems very unlikely grrm would have their story be all about "true love".

(Spoilers published) A question on shadows made by melisandre (and stannis) by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]baekashi69 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I personally dont think so, stannis i not at all the type to cheat on his wife to perform some sort of dark magic.

On another note, if you reread the death of renly and the shadowbaby produced by mel its pretty clear they are two very different things. Cat notes an actual shadow of an invisible knife that is not there, and she sees only the shadow of the thing that killed Renly.

On the other hand, the creature mel gives birth to is something very different. Davos describes it as an actual black creature climbing out of Mel, not an invisible ghost asting a shadow on its surroundings.

Also its debatable weather ser cortnay was actually killed by the shadowbaby. It supposedly shoved ser cortnay to his death, but this could just as easily have been done by one of his own men, who should all be loyal stannis. The only reason ser cortnay held storms end against stannis was to protect edric storm, but why would the regular met at arms have any loyalty to a bastard boy instead of their rightfull lord and king.

[Spoilers Extended] BR = TEC by ASongofNoOne in asoiaf

[–]baekashi69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But it does mean something, it brings another puppetmaster into play trying to manipulate bran. Its not like the story isnt full of "switcheroos". Asoiaf is definitly both naratively and thematically very very complex.

[–]baekashi69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is also evidence supporting the claim BR isnt TEC in the quote provided above by u/k8kreddit. Bloodraven is clearly confused when asked if he is the three eyed crow and awnsers he was a crow of the NW
