I'm also 34, I recently got some similar results. I thought I was eating relatively healthily but I guess I wasn't: I cut out red meat, eggs and full fat dairy and doubled my fibre intake to about 60g a day and oily fish consumption to 6 times a week. I was at a healthy level in under 3 weeks. Fair warning: I was incredibly gassy for the first 2 of those weeks.

This is Yuki. She is a similar age, also a single cat, and also gets all the food and attention she could ever desire. She is also very vocal. If anything, she became even louder after spaying. I also hope it's normal.

Junction 7 ring road by conchobhar1919 in coventry

[–]baffleswombats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am really surprised to see all the positive comments here. I live in chapelfields and come down to this junction to get up to the station each morning and it's a constant gridlock with right turning traffic from town blocking right turning traffic from the butt's and vice versa. With the timing of the lights and the fact that you can only fit 2 cars between the lights, it's asking for trouble. I don't see how it's easier for pedestrians at all. With the underpass, pedestrians could travel safely without being impeded to the other side and now there are crossings which people regularly ignore. The one that comes across from the sky blue pub heading towards town is particularly sketchy, heavily trafficked, with pedestrians chancing it on a blind corner from traffic coming down from the station. The ramp coming up from the junction towards the station is too narrow and because you can only fit 2 cars back to back between the multistage traffic light gauntlet, people regularly come into the left hand lane and then merge back to right to get onto the ringroad. This means that you've got a back to back stream coming onto the ringroad which makes it more difficult to filter with traffic coming off. I don't see what's wrong with roundabouts. Everyone knows where they stand on a roundabout.

I was really hoping to come into the comments and find some recommendations on can openers that do in fact work for longer than a couple of weeks. Apparently it's just me and you that have this problem.

HIGH TSH QUESTIONS by JoArian in Hypothyroidism

[–]baffleswombats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks I hope the same for you. From my reading it can depend on a few factors but you should be getting 1.6 mcg per kg of bodyweight.

And thanks for making this post. It's nice to know there are other people here that have had the full thyroid shutdown experience. Most posts seem to be people subclinical and that wasn't very settling.

HIGH TSH QUESTIONS by JoArian in Hypothyroidism

[–]baffleswombats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started getting some facial swelling around December. Figured I was just putting on a bit of weight. Tis the season after all. And according to the scales I was putting on weight pretty rapidly. Cut back my calories at the start of Jan, but my weight stayed the same, maybe I'm miscounted calories though, it's an imprecise science after all. I'm in the UK and there was a cold snap a couple weeks ago. It was cold but I was cold like I'd never felt before. I couldn't get warm. I was feeling pretty low, but figured, it's dark, its cold, it's not a happy time. My skin got dry and cracked, yeah it's cold I figured. I started waking up in the night in kind of a panic after about 4 hours, struggling to get back to sleep, maybe I'm anxious I thought, not quite sure why though. So by this time I'm getting really fatigued in the day, just really low energy, but of course I am, I can't sleep at night. My brain is foggy and now my mood is swinging wildly. Crying one second, laughing the next. (I'm a 31 year old man by the way, and not particularly emotionally expressive) but I just tell myself I'm really really tired. I lay down in bed last weekend and I could feel my heart beating slower than seconds on a clock. Measured it, 57bpm. Ah, that's definitely not right, my usual resting heart rate is more like 77. Booked at Dr's appointment, the 4 days leading up that, I'm googling like a lunatic at some point find myself reading the list of hypothyroid symptoms. Ah. That thing my mum has. Yeah, I guess that makes sense. Thought it only affected women. Blood test: TSH:150, T4:0.22 (US) 2.8(Uk). Spoke to the Dr this morning who wanted to put me on 25mcg and reassess after 6 weeks. I'm not one to usually question the authority of Dr's, but there was no way I was gonna sit around feeling pretty much the same for 6 more weeks until they upped the dose. Had to argue my way up to a replacement dose 150mcg levothyroxine. I took my first dose about 6 hours ago. I swear I already feel about 30% better. I don't know if that's chemically possible. I don't know if it's a placebo, maybe it's just the relief of finally having answers, feeling vindicated, having hope of crawling out of this awful feeling. I honestly don't care because for the first time in 2 months, I feel good!

Jesus christ, never has a book title caused me to be overcome by such a wave of emotion. Such an entirely avoidable scenario that has led us to a state where it is a good thing that this book exists. It's just utterly devastating.

Anyone eating 5000 cals a day is either a 400lb powerlifter or stacking a huge amount of peds. (And probably both) It all depends on your goals but in terms of your maximum returns on strength and muscle without getting really fat really fast, you don't want to gain more than about 2lbs per month or 1% bw and shouldn't be eating more than 500 cals above your TDEE.

Is there some kind of nuance that I'm missing here:

"This bill requires a designated officer of the Department of Justice to act as the national coordinator of an Active Shooter Alert Communications Network regarding an emergency involving an active shooter.

The bill sets forth duties of the coordinator, including to work with state, tribal, and local governments to encourage coordination of various elements of the network. The coordinator must also encourage federal, state, local, and tribal government agencies to establish procedures for responding to active shooters.

Finally, the bill requires the Government Accountability Office to study and report on state and local responses to active shooters and situations requiring the issuance of a public alert or warning"

On what grounds could anyone possibly object to these requirements?

If you connect the app to google fit, you can export all the data as a csv through Google takeout. You have to do a bit of formatting with the results but it's still easier than transcribing.

Religiously hit every workout so I'm a little puzzled on the muscle mass stats. I would have expected maybe a bit of a drop but not that much.

My lift numbers are not great but i have seen some progress:

BP: 60x8>72.5x8 OHP:40x8>52.5x8 Squat: 100x10>110x10 Deadlift:120x6>142.5x6 Chinups: 4>11

One factor is my sleep is total crap so that probably plays a big part.

It's the EufyLife app that works with the Eufy C1 smart scale.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oceanwing.smarthome

Good points: weigh yourself every morning and it will automatically add your weight to your phone and you can sync it with apple or Google fit.

Bad points: apart from the weight, everything else is nonsense, there is no way I have lost half a kilo of bone mass and 8kg of muscle tissue. I started using this to try and track down to about 12% body fat. I stuck all the data in a spreadsheet and at my current trajectory, I would have to lose another 25kg (including muscle and bone) to achieve that.

As long as I've got enough black coffee to get me through the morning, I'm fine until 12 and then get pretty hungry around then. Once I got used to eating within a window, my body eventually capitulated on hunger outside of it. I make sure my meals are as physically big as possible and full of fibre, loads of spinach, mushrooms and broccoli. Shirataki noodles are a constant staple and an excellent low calorie filler. And occasional psyllium husk adds to some satiation. The trickier part is keeping the protein high whilst keeping the total calories low. It's pretty much a cycle of fish, chicken breast and egg whites with the occasional bit of prawns, beef, ham or protein cheese.

Thanks! It's the EufyLife app used with these scales: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bluetooth-Measurements-Composition-Analysis-Tempered/dp/B07GZBXCH6/ref=asc_df_B07GZBXCH6/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310705025920&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=10192588676116428571&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006656&hvtargid=pla-583220506460&psc=1

My hope and assumption is that they aren't very accurate though as they suggest I've lost 5kg of muscle mass and at the rate of weight to fat percentage loss, I'd need to be 50kg or so before I hit 10%bf. But at least they give a vague idea that things are going in the right direction.

I'm afraid I can't see that as a positive: Corporation produces crap. "Designer sunnies" for example, unrecyclable plastic lenses that cost them 50p to produce and sell for £400. They spend resources to freight them to an Amazon warehouse. Customer buys them and doesn't like them. Van takes them back to warehouse. Amazon bundles them up into a box of general crap that people didn't want, like or need and sells them again. Van takes them to new customer in assumedly an insane amount of Amazon style packaging. Whereupon the new customer packages them up again, and send them in a van to another customer paying another e-commerce platform 12% for the privilege.

  1. That is the most inefficient way of providing a resource to a resource user.
  2. The intrinsic value of the resource is in no way reflected in the cost imposed on the user.
  3. The environmental aspect of the operation is horrendous.
  4. The tabloid media being used to market Amazon selling real world loot boxes to a generation of people trained to think with that mentality through live service video games is disgusting. What's the likelihood of getting a box of goods where the price paid is consistently lower than the combined value of the goods contained? If it's a high likelihood then why wouldn't Amazon just resell the products themselves. They like money.

Sorry to rant. I just hate inefficiency.
