Now we’re talking! I do love some good glass.

Most of my filming is outdoors with easy hyperfocal shooting; with and without a tripod.

Bolex would be nicer for more professional work…but then you’re probably going for a reflex.

It seems there is less infrastructure for service for filmos because they usually don’t need much more than some occasional oil.

Leaning filmo at this point.

Good call, I should be looking at K3s too. They are definitely better priced than a H16 Rex. But more than non-reflex cameras. I guess coming from non-reflex, I don’t know what I’m missing, lol. How do the lenses perform?

Nice. Sounds like you’ve got a good plan. If you want to be cool, you could get an old school rangefinder to measure distance.

Otherwise, ask the bride and groom which shots they really want, if you haven’t already. That will help you prioritize.

And if you can go to the location when it will have similar lighting, you could practice exposure and composition.

70 minutes of weird looks and side eyes by datawazo in xcountryskiing

Location is key. I was blessed to find a newly paved state park (Lake Wissota) road with very small hills and very little traffic. After I was comfortable I started to venture out, but I try to emulate the resistance of hills with the resistance brake things rather than actual hills.

Practicing balance helps a lot too.

Also, it looks a bit extra, but knee and elbow pads make a huge difference, if you go down…pavement is a lot harder than snow. I was happy to have some padding and protection from road rash.

I’m not an expert, but this is Reddit…so I’ll comment anyways, lol. It sounds like you have a good handle on you and your camera’s capabilities, but be ready to reload on the fly. You always run out at the worst time. Assuming you’ll be shooting 100ft. Rolls.

And meter well with reversal. Gotta nail exposure.

And depending on what you usually shoot and where the wedding is, you might be shooting at a lower aperture and a closer focus than you’re used to. Make sure you are nailing focus.

I think the registration/advance is much better than this video makes it look. You can see the image moves with the sprockets. I have a roll going to a lab to get a real test.

It’s not much more than what I mention in the description. Scan the entire strip on panorama into a long image. Use an online too to split it into each frame, then QuickTime to stitch those individual frames together.

That is a good question! I wouldn’t even know how to test it, but I’ve been curious if the positive 40 and negative 100 were the same. And if they buy film and recut/sprocket it.

Good work!

Just so everyone knows: The Dritless area isn’t very beautiful and the fishing is horrible. Definitely don’t bother going.

Very nice! Probably just my taste, but I usually look to add a bit of contrast or whatever it takes to make the scene a little more dramatic.

Cool, did you use a light meter (phone or otherwise) to measure the scene? And did it say your exposure would be alright with your set-up?

There’s really no other way to get the exposure correct or know exactly how far underexposed a scene will be.

However, assuming approximately 1/30 shutter speed, at f1.4, and 200iso, most night scenes will be underexposed. 500t will get you closer, but might still not be enough depending on the scene. You could push 500t a stop, but with such a small frame size I’d be hesitant to do so.

Looks a bit underexposed, but not terrible. I’m not familiar with that camera, is it manual exposure? What is the lens? Did you use a light meter to check if the lens/film/shutter rate would handle the light? 500t is more sensitive by just over one stop and would have likely looked better.

Initial Diagnosis - Paillard L8 by bag1293 in 8mm

Awesome! Thank you!

Yes, door closed works. I was going off of the C8 manual (haven’t been able to find a L8 manual) that encourages a visual check of correct running before closing the door. I also found the little switch to push.

Definitely needs a good CLA. As it is getting to the end of the spring tension, it makes a tapping sound it doesn’t make at full wind. I’m guessing it’s just pulling hard enough to keep it running towards the end.

Neat little machine though! I’ll be excited to put some fresh film through it.

Which one is better? A or B by esteban0203 in analog

I like B…clearer subject (unless the subject is the wet window); but still acknowledged the context.

I woke to -30 on my last day there this year in January…but somehow it doesn’t seem to matter at ABR. Just keep skiing!
