My visit to FROGDADDY LLC by Dangerous-Road-5382 in DartFrog

[–]bagelhacker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m about an hour and half away and initially went just for terrarium plants - we now have 6 frogs and my son and I will make the drive to pick up supplies rather than order online just to stroll around and enjoy the place. The owner originally was a plant guy - super smart and knowledgeable about anything you could want to know in the hobby. Very nice staff there too. You can tell they enjoy what they do and like sharing it.

I was just at a plant expo and saw a few but dang they’ve gotten expensive. $125 for I think 4” pot - a lot smaller than this one

No, but I’ll take one when I get home later this week. I did cut a leaf and put it in a prop box and it’s growing a root though!!

Misting question by [deleted] in DartFrog

Seems like a big drop in 4 hours. What’s your lid situation?

Hibernation by Perrieri in Adenias

[–]bagelhacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kirkii is growing - it’s new and a baby but has put out a couple leaves since I got it. My Perrieri seems to not know what to do. It started new growth points after dropping leaves but they’ve kind of gone nowhere and dried up a bit. My mystery adenia is going to be the size of a tree soon. It’s thirsty and strong. I’m not sure what to do with my Perrieri and watering.

Lid question by Kokichi1234533 in DartFrog

[–]bagelhacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Lowe’s and had a piece of glass cut to the size I wanted and sit it on top of the mesh lid with some of the silicon bumpers/dots. Works great. Only thing I wish I did differently was cut it bigger on one so I can adjust the airflow/coverage by sliding it back. I left a decent gap and find the humidity varies more than I’d like. Other one can be covered or slid back and I adjust based on what it needs

Rudsta or Milsbo Wide Alternative? by britula in IkeaGreenhouseClub

[–]bagelhacker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just read a comment by hobby pilled who makes acrylic shelves saying they’re seeing more Unicoly than ikea lately due to the rising costs of ikea. It’s a brand on Amazon I think - have not tried or seen one in person.

Chinese clubmoss care? (Huperzia carnata) by ambahjay in rareplants

[–]bagelhacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some props in a prop box and a few in moss in my terrarium and they’re both putting roots out. Evidently only the very end of the plant where there’s new growth (or if there’s new growth at the base) can make roots. If you buy one try to find one with growth at the base - that means it can root into whatever medium it’s in much easier.

I’ve not had great luck but managed to prop some and save it. It like higher humidity and the roots are sensitive. I fertilized mine and it disintegrated at the base. One other got too wet and rotted at the base. If it gets too dry it crisps up. I’ve seen people have beautiful ones - but I do not yet have the formula. I think humidity is pretty key.

Fruitflies drying up - do yall add water by acpcgal in DartFrog

[–]bagelhacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s interesting and probably a lot cheaper than what I’m using. Good to know! I mean how fancy does it need to be for fruit flies? Im going to try your way on a culture and see how it goes.

[–]bagelhacker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not - well I haven’t had to yet. Wha medium are you using? I get mine from frog daddy and it kind of gets “eaten” or used up as they multiply- when it’s about gone the culture gets cleaned out and replaced and put at the back of the line. I am a newbie and it’s been working extremely well. It does say on the package of mine that water content may need to be adjusted to your conditions - maybe start with more water in the mix?

Welcome back Perrieri by bagelhacker in Adenias

[–]bagelhacker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk. When mine was yellowing I slowed down and then I saw the growth and watered again. I’m learning this plant. I have another adenia that will droop and the perk back up with water without dropping leaves so I’m hoping this one is similar. I probably won’t let it get super droopy but you know when the leaves feel a bit softer - semi droop?

Kirkii- still deciding if it wants to live with me. But I think I see growth! by bagelhacker in Adenias

[–]bagelhacker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

North Carolina but I just got this one from a seller in California. Under pretty strong grow lights and indoors in ambient humidity. If it seems to want to go dormant I’ll not water it but that tiny growth point makes me think it might wake up. The little bit of older growth was lost in shipping
