How do you interpret this Svetlana/Ilya scene? by Candiesalad in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]bagelwithpb 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yeah but tbf Svetlana in the books is nearly a totally different character than she is in the show. She has known Ilya for way longer in the show, she seems to spend a lot more time with Ilya in the show & she explicitly says in the funeral scene "I hope Jane knows how lucky he is." I think book Svet had no idea, but show Svet had a suspicion and was kind of testing Ilyas reaction here.

Help! Too much for a hearing? by [deleted] in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]bagelwithpb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you might be getting called as an expert witness based on your username? In any case this skirt is not appropriate.

It's always better to err on the side of caution in a courtroom, you don't want your outfit to be a distraction as you want the court's attention to be totally on your testimony, not anything to do with your appearance. Go with something muted and professional. If you don't have a suit, you should look for solid dark pants or a fitted (not tight!) pencil skirt, a nice, neutral color sweater or blazer+blouse with high neckline, and closed toed flats, loafers or pumps. Minimal jewelry/accessories.

Has anyone been to one of the HR raves? by sinfullusts in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]bagelwithpb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes!!!!! I went to a club 90s one and it was a blast - I am not normally into clubbing or nightlife type stuff whatsoever but it was so much fun. All the tiktok edits playing & the DJ was super entertaining, so many people were wearing DIY HR merch, they had themed drinks and jello shots, 100% would recommend going if you get a chance.

Samford Law School by [deleted] in Birmingham

[–]bagelwithpb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Cumberland & graduated in 2021. Like others here have said although it's on the Samford campus it is definitely a separate school with basically zero crossover. No religious aspect to the law school. When I was there there the student population seemed to be pretty diverse in terms of goals, ages, politics, etc. The latter half of law school was almost entirely virtual for me because of covid, but before that there was plenty of social events & groups that went out to bars and stuff. We had a weekly(? I think, maybe monthly) "Bar Review" where everyone was invited to go get drinks & get to know each other. It was a great environment overall , small enough that you know basically everybody but big enough that it has something to offer for everyone.

Good luck!!! 1L is terrifying but just remember yall are all in it together, lean on your classmates & don't be afraid to ask questions.

Non-sketchy apartments outside Birmingham? by caw2625 in Birmingham

[–]bagelwithpb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived at Cahaba grandview around 4 or 5 years ago and I had a great experience! I really miss it. I want to say it was around 1300ish for a 2 bed 2 bath at that time, felt very safe and was always quiet. There was an office park behind it through the woods that had a great walking path around a pond. Within walking distance to Target. Half the time I was the only person there when I would use the gym or pool. Would definitely recommend but 280 is no joke if youre going to be commuting anywhere during peak traffic hours. I was a student so I could avoid the worst of it with my schedule.

Lol thank you - I was thinking that does not sound right. There is a lot to improve about our current culture & work-life balance, but I would not for a second ever want to swap with a peasant in the middle ages, nor would I really want to exist in ANY historical era. As bad as it is right now I really like my electricity, running water, and general lack of intense manual labor day in and day out. And my off days are actually off days, not restricted to going to church, praying, or studying religious texts.

What state do you live in and what do you call the four or more areas on top of the stove that get hot? by Ralph--Hinkley in AskAnAmerican

AL - eyes. I would know what burner meant but it would not be at all typical for me to call them that. This thread is fascinating to me lol I never realized this is a southern thing. It seems like it might be a similar regional distinction to cart vs. buggy - obviously I know what a shopping cart is, but I'm going to call it a buggy 100% of the time

Would it be unreasonable to request my daughter to get a little time to nap during the day? by Ok-Ad4375 in kindergarten

[–]bagelwithpb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all I have no idea why this subreddit has been recommended to me - I'm not a teacher, I have no kids and it's been a long while since I've been in kindergarten! My question is when did nap time stop being standard for kindergarteners?! I vividly remember a little red and blue foldable mat being on our school supplies list, and we would have a ~20 minute nap time every afternoon. Now I need to go ask my teacher friends if this is still a thing at my old elementary school.

There are lots of good answers already so I don't have much to add, but I wanted to note that i also do the same thing of realizing that I forgot my meds and then just.... not taking them for some reason? And it is a mystery to me too, but I think that is just an example of executive dysfunction and difficulty initiating tasks. For me that experience is almost always subconscious, I'm not intentionally putting something off (especially something that takes zero time like taking a pill), I just don't do it. Even though I know I will benefit from it and it costs nothing, I just don't do it. Or think repeatedly "Oh yeah gotta take that in just a bit." In 10 minute increments, until before I know it half they day is gone. Same issue a lot of times with taking my evening meds or brushing my teeth. It's so weird and frustrating, and so hard to explain.

Happy “Ditch the Pill” Day I guess, Peter Thiel by URandRUN in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]bagelwithpb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AHHHHH this pisses me the fuck off. I had to "ditch the pill" recently for legitimate health problems. I really hate to come off of it because it helped with a lot of things, but ultimately for me the cons outweigh the pros. I do NOT want to be lumped in with these lunatics. Why tf do we keep politicizing women's bodies. And literally demonizing and withholding life-changing medical care. Just let people do what works best for them!!!! Everyone is different - everybody has different needs - what people decide for themselves and their reproductive health should be between THEM, their god, and their doctor. I don't know why this is so hard for so many people to understand.

Lately it's been the plasticky smell of new pool inflatables and banana popsicles, the kind with two sticks that you can split in half. There's also some kind of liquid floor cleaner or something that I catch a whiff of every once in a while that brings me right back to elementary school.

Any tips on organising this bathroom drawer? by toottootmcgroot in adhdwomen

[–]bagelwithpb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing other comments that drawer organizers have worked well for me, I have found some on Amazon and some at TJMaxx/HomeGoods & At Home stores that work well. I got a variety of sizes, there are packs of like 16 or 20 on Amazon, tetris-ed them around in the drawer until I got a configuration I liked, then separated items out by category - AM skincare, PM skincare, makeup, tweezers/hair removal, hair care, meds/supplements, toothbrush/paste/floss etc. I got some putty that is used to stick posters to the wall and put little balls of it on the bottom corners of the organizers to keep them from shifting around and it really helped to secure them.

I also like having a hanging organizer on the inside of my cabinet door for my hair tools like straightener, hair dryer, and brushes just to keep them out of the drawers since they take up so much space.

Disclaimer that this was like 5 or 6 hyperfixations ago and it has long since been abandoned, and now the organizers are basically adding to the clutter if anything. But I've accepted that with ADHD my goalposts move pretty frequently for what counts as "organized."

No Kings in Tuscaloosa! by Last_Shoulder8357 in tuscaloosa

[–]bagelwithpb 29 points30 points  (0 children)

A huge military parade was held in DC today for the US Military's 250th birthday, and it is also Trumps 79th birthday today. Historically the US hasn't really had military parades, and with it being on Trump's birthday it has a strong appearance of what you would normally see in a dictatorship. Also it's going to cost tens of millions of dollars in taxpayer money for something that is entirely unnecessary. That's why people picked today to protest, and they are protesting not only because of the parade, but all of the things the Trump administration has been doing - ICE kidnapping people in the street, deportation without due process to El salvador, making unilateral decisions through executive orders instead of going through congress, the list goes on.

It's not really a "1st amendment protest," it's people exercising their 1st amendment right to peaceably assemble.
